New awareness campain launched today in Ireland. "Stop the spread". The basics are that as a nation we have become over weight and have accepted it, so that most of the nation are overweight. Seemingly, if a woman has a 32" waist, maesurement taken from bellybutton, then she is overweight, and 37" for a man. I'm gutted at havin a measurement of 40". I'm 5ft 8 and 11stone 6. I do carry my weight around my middle, but 8 inches over is depressing. Firstly, do you think thats an accurate gage, and how do you lose 8 inches from that area!!! Aghhhhh
And for anyone interested, google "Stop the Spread".

Well one woman of 6'2 and one of 5.0 in height are going to be pretty different!!!! Its like BMI - it is not accurate at all. If you are fit and muscular you can come up overweight with BMI. You can't generalise like this when the population is so different in shape, height etc.

Thing is you can use all these measurements but my calcumalations.. if you can pinch more than an inch, get on the winch!

It's rubbish. My mother and I were, for the last ten years of her life, similar in height and weight. Her measurements were usually 34 26 44, at the same weight as she was I'd be 48 40 37. If anything she would be carrying more fat than me as my bone structure is bigger and heavier than hers was.

There is no one size fits all gauge IMHO.
