Overzealous estimations?

I'm getting back into riding and viewing some cobs to train up and back.

The advertisement I've seen is for a 13.2 gelding rising 4 (currently 3yr and 5 months).

I need a horse that will make 14.3 minimum and the post is saying it will, but it seems a bit optimistic considering his current height. It is claimed that both parents were 15.2, she hasn't answered what he's currently being fed or his name ?

Stay clear or risk it for a biscuit?

I'd be gobsmacked if it made that height. My rising four 15.0 1/2 cob made almost 16 hands at eight.

If 'need' means need, then steer clear because if it gets anywhere near it, it probably won't be for years.

I though as much, many can be such late bloomers but this one is far to tiny for me. I'm a tall athletic type so I'd dwarf the little thing and cause back issues. None of which I'd ever want to inflict on a horse.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

So would I, the chances are it will not be 13.2 now either or that they have any real idea of the heights of the parents, many of these cobs are now very small in height despite the ambitious claims by their owners.

I bred two full brothers by a 15.3hh anglo arab out of a 14hh mare of unknown breeding. First one made 16hhs with plenty of bone, his full brother was a lightweight, narrow 15hhs. Nothing like each other at all. First foal (filly) that mare had was by a 16hh appaloosa and made 14hhs. When selling youngstock I never made any promises about what height they would make, all I would promise is that they wouldn't get any smaller:p

IME height is never set in stone. My most surprising purchase ever was a barely 15h scrawny cob type at 4 years old. He finished up a very big and chunky 16.2 maxi cob type at 6/7.

But I would very much doubt the OP's example will mature at the height she is looking for.

Mine was 13.3hh at 2 and 14.1hh at 6. Both parents were 15hands. Some do grow, lots do not! I will also put money on the pony not being 13.2hh now as well!
