Horse priced at £2800 OVNO. What would you say would be a reasonable VNO to make?! Did say price inc tack etc but tack worth v little ie bottom end synthetic!
Thank guys!!
I agree it is a buyers market, but think £800 knocked off is not really a very near offer
if you are brave enough go for it though, they can only tell you that your'e a cheeky git
Saying that i got £800 knocked off my boy, but they were desperate to sell in the end
went in £300 under the asking price first off and got accepted but bottled out (due to confidence issues) Went for it via txt and they said if you can fetch him this weekend he's yours
huge bargain.
What do you see the horse being worth, how long has it been advertised and is there any other interest
Ta guys...its a pony actually rather than a horse. Do you think that makes any difference?! To me they seem to be a lot more expensive (relatively speaking) and snapped up a lot quicker than horses at the mo (well of the ones I have rung up about anyway!). This is one of the cheaper ones I have seen so wanted to rehearse my bargaining technique in my head 1st! Could say leave the tack but I suppose it would do for a few weeks before we can replace it.
Any tips from more confident sales negotiators would be much appreciated...and the sellers are really nice which always makes it harder for me!!
Thanks missugoopy...don't want to P anyone off or appear as a timewaster. Pone only advertised in one place v. recently - no other interest as yet...well one other but too small. Am in the process of putting it through the mill to ensure its as suitable as poss for my child...owners v. helpful. Want to go in a bit lower given tack will need replacing but don't want to create bad feeling.
Sound a bit wimpy don't I?!
You dont appear wimpy at all. My mare is currently for sale, i had an offer at less than 2/3 the asking price! I didn't take it! Was slightly offended, but people said due to having to have her vetted, and buying tack they wouldn't b able to afford her. Surely they knew that before they came to see her????? I think they were trying to play the sympathy card. Im not great at bargaining (sp?), and i hav paid full price for a horse before because i went to see her and she was worth every penny of the asking price. So decide what the pony is worth to you. OVNO would suggest a small amount off, but make sure you don't offend the sellers, or put their backs up. IMO if it is the right pony it is worth going in with a offer pretty close to the asking price (personally no less than £2400 imo), as sitting on the other side of the fence i would be put off a person if they offered a low price, as i would think of them as being less genuine, and looking for a quick bargain.
Thanks Charlie Mouse...have normally paid asking or quite close to but wanted to pay a bit less here given quality of tack..time of year etc...and given I didn't really want to have to buy my 5th equine...was hoping to loan something or at least off load one of mine!!
I too have been on the receiving end when selling a no. of times where people come up with a ludicrous offer saying thats all they can afford...well why see a horse advertised at x quid then!! If the horse isn't as advertised or probs come out at viewing or if its been on the market for a long time then thats a bit different and gives you grounds for negotiation I suppose.
Maybe £2.5K would be reasonable?!
