Just been out for a windy hack on t'moors. Delighted to find the cattle grid has had the gate mended. Through we go, and off for a good blast across the heather. On our return we go to do gate, open it halfway but it gets stuck. Horse (bargy git) pushes. Car goes over cattle grid and panics him. My leg gets stuck as horse squeezes through!!!! Ouuuuuuccchhhhh!!!!!
Stirrup comes off (thank goodness they slip off a Falcon saddle) - it was caught on gate. Manage to catch it before it slips through its keeper. I have to ride back stirrupless to safety of a farmyard, as horse is having a paddy on main road and needs to calm down. Dismount to reattach stirrup and leather. Notice horse has scratched his butt. Horse has a pee. Get back on - horse takes off with me laid across saddle!!!!!! Manage to stop him and get back on properly.
Back home safely, horse has had his wound sorted and half a sachet of bute for the bruises. I have the most ENORMOUS bruise coming on my shin. If I hadnt have been wearing my trust Mountain Horse High Riders I would certainly have no skin on my shin. Going in the bath and getting some painkillers down my neck.

Just wanted to share that with you all. Ouch!!!!

Just a word of warning - I did the very same thing out hunting, Ariat long boots made sure my leg was intact. Kept hunting for another three hours, no probs. Like you, went home & had a bath, then the next day had a massive bruise/lump combo. Very attractive.

Went to the doctors a few weeks later for something else, mentioned that my leg still hurt after whacking it - she took a look and said I'd almost certainly chipped/cracked the bone. It is still sensitive now, and there is a definite lump. If I press it it kind of feels like when you whack your elbow.

I guess what I'm saying is if it was a good knock then it may be worth having it checked. The doctor said I was very lucky that the chip didn't cause a lot of pain!

Ouch!! Always hurts! I had something similar with just my chaps..lovely massive cut/graze all down my shin with a nice black bruise surrounding the whole thing. Hope it gets better soon :)
