Own Land or Livery?

Hello, I am new to this forum but would love some advice!! I have started riding again after a very long break (20 years!). I had a couple of ponies when i was a teenager but then gave them up to have my family. My youngest daughter is now showing the same love of horses as me ... and we are now riding together at our local riding stables.

My aim at some point is to have a horse again and a pony for my daughter.

We are planning a move to the New Forest next year and my question is this:

I'm wondering whether I should buy a property with enough land to keep horses at home .... rather than livery??

Could people give me their advice on the advantages/disadvantages of "own land versus livery" - the idea of keeping horses on one's own land sounds easy and more cost effective ... but in reality ... I don't know a lot about keeping good grazing etc. etc. (though I'm happy to learn) - so wonder whether livery is a better option!! :):)

I would be very grateful for any comments !:confused:

Many, many thanks.
Karen

There is a post just below on this page which is exactly this question, with lots of good answers, that may help! xx

Whilst it would be nice to have my horses at home, I like having people around if something happens and I need some help. It depends how expirenced you are. I think I would be able to manage now but I wouldn't of been able to do it when I first got my horse. :)
