OWNERS OF 15+ COMPETITION HORSES (£10k+) , DO YOU INSURE?

What involvement should the father have?

question in the title , struggling to find a good policy for a new 15 year old horse

if you don't insure i'd be interested to hear what provisions you make instead or if you have fallen foul of not doing so

or any other comment that might help me in this minefield!!

scenario is that i am considering buying a schoolmaster for what is alot of money to me , he is great but i want to make aure it doesn't end in tears & that i can care for him properly if the worst were to happen

My horse is now 20 so doesn't really compare but he is insured for everything he can be (accidental injury) and I pay extra for colic insurance, however, even though he is worth X amount due to his ability, he is only insured for a nominal value as otherwise he would just be too expensive to insure.... I think with the older horses you just have to accept worse case scenario you won't get enough to replace them but at least you can insure them and treat them for any illness or injury

I have been with same insurance company (petplan) for the last ten years. Under their policy ed is fully insured until he is twenty but this is only for current customers. I think it is 16 otherwise.
