I am looking at a MAN '02 lorry and I'd like your feedback on -

what they are like to drive

how easy you have found to get them maintained and how expensive

how reliable yours has been and if not reliable what problems did you have?

Big thanks to anyone who can help.

I have a 1998 MAN - absolute pleasure to drive compared to my previous Ford Cargo! Nice gutsy engine, easy 5 speed gearbox and good cruising speed on motorways. I've had mine 4 years now and have had a new exhaust part, a couple of tyres & a new fuel tank fitted in that time. All no more expensive than anything else, I would say, and all parts readily available. It's been 100% reliable for starting after an initial hiccup when we discovered the battery would drain in a week but fitting a £50 battery isolator switch soon sorted that. Mine has sat all through the very cold winter & just been started up once a week - took it out on the road today for the first time since last Sept and all OK. Hope this helps.

They are excelent I had a 96 which is basicly the same as an 02.. I swapped my box from the MAN chassis to a 04 merc which is ok and has air suspension however it dosent drive any better than the older man! Man were the first to make a sucsessful diesel lorry in the 1920s they have an exelent pedigree and
are possibly the best quality trucks made they are pricey new hence you see more cheaper ivecos about the parts are fairly dear but if the thing is in good order and you service it regularly its unlikely to give much trouble, and any one that can serivice trucks will be able to look after it .. Hope that helps...

i have a 01 MAN have to say its been the most reliable man in my life!!! It is better to have a battery isolator then no flat batterries. good on fuel, easy to drive, fast and powerful and doesnt wilt on the hills even with 3 big ones on. costs on maintenance depend on your garage i have a good chap that does my lorries who doesnt charge the earth. make sure its got all the mirrors req for plating!!! only downside is they are not good on grass and you might have to be towed out of shows etc!

I still have my MAN 94 and it is wonderful. I'd buy another tomorrow but I won't need to.

Wow, this is good feedback, thanks! Sounds like a deal if it's the right price, it's only done 43,000 kilometres even though it's 8 years old.
