I cant make up my mind whether to get a short or standard one, some say that the standard ones hit the back of the saddle but do the short ones leave your lower back unprotected? Need to make the right choice, had a lower back op which has left it pretty weak and painful.
Any advice appreciated.

they come in two different lengths, short or standard length. I know i need a size med, but i dont know which length to get.

measure yourself for the length then? I am sure if you email supplier with your stats they will recommend whether to go for short or standard.

Or go and try on at a stockist if there is one near you?

I would strongly suggest ringing a fitter if you can't see one in person as the sizing can be a bit funny and it's best to give your measurements to someone who fits a lot of them.

I found the airowear outlyne(latest model) gave the best, effective sacroiliac protection, without interfering with saddle. It also has a memory foam layer,so 'moulds' to your shape when you've had it on 5mins. Not stiff like a board!

I ordered the standard length, they rang me and recommended the short so I said okay, arrived and it was far too short! So I had to return it and wait for them to send me the one I originally ordered, slightly irritating. I would say, unless you are particularly short, standard will be fine, I'm 5ft 6" and leggy and standard length is fine for me.

It completely depends on your personal size rather than preference. I'd recommend either measuring yourself or going to a supplier and getting them to fit it for you.
I have a short body so have to have a short, however a friend of mine is in a regular due to having a longer body.

no local stockists around here to try one on which is a shame, but i am 5ft 8, so thinking i can probably accept it banging on the back of the saddle sometimes aslong as my lower back is protected.
Just wanted info from the people that already own one, which one they have and whether they find it hits the saddle.

If you are small check the out child's sizes too, they are cheaper and depending on your body shape they can be a better fit!

I tried one of these on and really didn't like it.

I haven't worn a BP in over 10 years and I got the new racesafe one for christmas.

I'm 5'7 and got the short back. The standard would have hit the back of the saddle.
I would say measure yourself and then get which one is appropriate for you.

I'm in a kids L :D

Give them a ring if you're not sure, they're normally great. I know what you mean about the fit, I've tried the Outlyne and others and hated them - I will be replacing my racesafe with another racesafe (RS2010) if I need a new one!

Definitely get it fitted, and sit in a saddle in the shop for the fitting.
I was too tall for the short but the long bumped the saddle. In the end I cut the ends, shortened the foam and restitched it carefully, I know it's a bit naughty but I have no chest and a long back so it was the best I could do. I DON'T recommend you do this though!

They are very comfy.

I have the short one, I got measured. I am glad I did, as even though my lower back is slightly more exposed - it fits correctly. But if it weren't shorter it would catch on the cantle, and be a pain. I really do think you'd be better off getting it fitted or phoning treehouse to ask their recommendation.

You must try one on! Luckily my friend had the size I needed but in the standard length, so I tried hers and realised it was far too long. So I got the short and it fits great - it does actually come down my back long enough and is so comfy I forget it's on! I am 5' 9", by the way (long legs, short body I guess ;) )

Mine was from Treehouse, at HOYS. I sat in the saddle at the tradestand,
I am glad I was fitted as I wouldnt have made the same choice.

Mine hits the back of my saddle, drives me mad. doesnt hit other saddles ive used though, just mine.
TBH i hardly wear mine as i hate how uncomfortable they are but of all the back protectors ive used racesafe has the be the comfiest. Just make sure its fitted properly, cos a poorly fitted back protector can cause injury too.

I'm 5'6''. and neither long nor short in the back. I had mine fitted by Treehouse and had the short as like others the regular hit the saddle.

I got mine from them at Blenheim, tried them on and ended up with a childs size that they had lengthened and then sent to me. Would definately reccommend going and being fitted by them, because if your (like me) not a standard size they can make one for you.

I'm 5'5" and size 10 with long legs and short body so had it fitted at HOYS and ended up with adult XS short back! Definitely worth being fitted though! Mine fits perfectly :)

I got a standard one, but it was too long and hit the back of the saddle - but Racesafe do alterations and shortened mine for me for a few quid, so better to get one that's slightly long because it can be shortened, but if you get one that's too short, then it can't be lengthened. Good luck

I tried a racesafe after breaking my back last year and it didn't sit in close to my back and so I didn't feel protected. I went for an airowear outlyne in the end, moulded to me and feels a lot more protective.
