We have an old rice trailer and are thinking of changing the centre partition so it can swing rather than being rigid. Our thinking is that it will be easier just to swing the front or rear partitions when loading/unloading rather than trying to move the whole of the very heavy partition that it has, which to be honest i can't do have to call on OH's muscles.

Sooooooo have any any of you manged to replace, build or find a suitable swinging central partion.

Also seen a rice trailer on ebay that looked like it had coconut matting at the front where the horses front feet go and rubber on the back where the poop comes out. Thought this might be a good idea to aid with balance and stop slipping, what do you think?

Re the partition. Mine is a newer trailer and has the swinging partition. I have just asked my OH who suggested finding a "general metal fabricator" to help design and make what you want. You could get piccies from the rice website to get some ideas. If you find a one man band it wont cost the earth.

Not sure what model you have but I have an old Bahill which was exactly the same design as one of the old Rice models. The partition was plywood to the floor and very heavy. I had my local trailer man cut out half the wood and weld a new metal bar across. There is now a 3ft ish space at the bottom of the partition, I was originally planning to put rubber there but I only ever travel one horse so no point. It only cost me £25 but I also gave him an old Ifor Williams partition I had cos the trailer got nicked so I guess it would've cost a bit more than that.

I can now (just about!) lift it in and out on my own and it swings at both the front and back so is much easier for getting horses on and off. It also means the horses can spread their legs better.
