Not in France but have been researching a move and never heard of it either. You need to have passed an exam (Galop 7) to compete and you need to arrange public liability insurance for your horses via your house insurance, but that's is all I know about.

Don't know, but you certainly do in Spain so it wouldn't surprise me if France is the same. I have one as I couldn't move my horse within the country without one. It maybe that on your UK papers you have to put the Registration number of the place you intend to take your horse to.

Ask RichardRider, he has horses and lots of horsey friends in France.

Registered with whom or what ?
I live in France and never had to be 'registered' to own one or more horses...
Your horse should be micro-chipped and registered with the French National Stud though (Haras Nationaux/Sire) and registered with the Sport Horse register if you want to compete in affiliated comps that's all and very easily done after your arrival.

Good luck !

As Blackeventer has said, you don't need to be registered to own a horse! But your horse MUSt be registered within 6 months if you bring it from a different country, they also have to be micro-chipped!
