I know this is relatively new to the market but I would value opinions on the P2-RS compared to the P2 air jacket and race safe body protector bought seperately.

Having spoken to a well known supplier of both they suggested that I would be better off with the two seperate items as I could have the racesafe with a shorter back if needed and the air jacket on it's own will protect more of the spine than the P2-RS. I value their opinion but would also like yours and any experiences?

They work out roughly the same in cost so that's not really a deciding factor. My greatest worry is covering the collar bone area as i'm now sporting a bone graft, plate and 7 pins second time around! Both cover this and I would definately be getting the shoulder protectors that fit both types.

Please don't use this thread as a debate about point two vs other makes or whether it's needed or not. I just need to know the above info as I will be getting a P2 of some sort regardless!

I have the RS and P2 as two separate items and must admit I think it's a better option. Mainly because if you have a fall xcing you can whip off the jacket and still be legal to continue with just the BP on (have been in this situation a few times) with the hybrid you can't really do that, if you fall your out.

Also if you outgrow your BP you can get a new one and get extension straps for air jackets to make it fit whereas with the hybrid you outgrow it and need to buy a new one which would cost loads more than a new BP. I also think the the hybird looks really bulky compared to the P2 and RS.

I saw the P2-RS for the first time "in the flesh" at Burghley. I was really unimpressed with it. It looked very bulky and something about it made it look cheap, if I was to buy one of the options I would definitely stick to BP and P2.

Just out of interest does the P2-RS come in any toher colour than black?

seperate:)

i wear my BP to hack, if I was hacking in mid winter i would have my BP over a long sleeved top as close to your body as poss as recommended, with a jumper and jacket no doubt over... obviously an air jacket would need to go on top. Even if you dont wear them to hack like me, think of XC training and clinics in colder weather.

i also think having seen both airjackets and the the new hybrid at blair, id actually go for a hitair to wear with my RS2010

At the moment I would certainly go for separates. The foam used in Racesafe bp's degenerates over time. Bp's made of this type of foam (which is all brands of bp, barring the Kan) need replacing every 3-5 years, or after an impact. This means the P2-rs will need to be replaced in this time frame for it to offer the protective qualities. This makes the P2-rs a very expensive piece of kit!

I do think in the future hybrids may well be the way forwards, but at the moment I would want seperates.

separate for me. invested in a P2 at Burghley and spoke to the guys there about the hybrid. The separate P2 covers so much more of you that I cant see me finding the hybrid attractive any time soon.

ella-
i found they covered more of you when i tried them on, the hitair comes up and seems to offer more neck protection and lower down at the back. Also they have been the top selling air jacket abroad for years, the only reason they arent as well know here is that point 2 launched first. I also like that they inflate outwards. I dont trust Point2's marketing claims. Plus they are cheaper!

Thank you that's really interesting. I can't try them on at the moment but will do before I buy. I'm guessing hit air can be found in motor cycle shops?
