Hi, my lovely wb mare sustained a sagittal articular p3 fracture(entire bone in half with a y shaped fragment break at the toe) in the field earlier this year, and she has been on box rest and 6 weekly xrays since. She had a rim shoe fitted after the first two weeks of plaster. For the first 2 months she could not stand on this foot at all. I was wondering if anyone else's horse had this injury in the past, and what rehab their horse had etc? She is coping well with box rest , and can now walk ok. The vet is positive about the xray results, in terms of bone stability and healing so far. I am worried about her being okay to be a field horse, as the vet and some papers I have read tell me the the prognosis is still pretty poor. She is not on any painkillers I'm not concerned about her ever returning to work, she's been through enough - I just want her to have a decent quality life in retirement. If anyone has had a similar experience with prognosis for this type of injury and has any rehab advice that would be great. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your mare and hope that someone on here has some experience of this, to be able to help you.

It is so good to know that you are supporting her through all this, even though she may never be ridden again, and I admire you for this and you must love her to bits ..... as I would do the same
