Hi, my lovely wb mare sustained a sagittal articular p3 fracture(entire bone in half with a y shaped fragment break at the toe) in the field earlier this year, and she has been on box rest and 6 weekly xrays since. She had a rim shoe fitted after the first two weeks of plaster. For the first 2 months she could not stand on this foot at all. I was wondering if anyone else's horse had this injury in the past, and what rehab their horse had etc? She is coping well with box rest , and can now walk ok. The vet is positive about the xray results, in terms of bone stability and healing so far. I am worried about her being okay to be a field horse, as the vet and some papers I have read tell me the the prognosis is still pretty poor. She is not on any painkillers I'm not concerned about her ever returning to work, she's been through enough - I just want her to have a decent quality life in retirement. If anyone has had a similar experience with prognosis for this type of injury and has any rehab advice that would be great. Thanks!
