No I have none nor do I want...but a livery has a Russian Trotter and she is very limited to what she can do?

Apart from harness racing and hacking...what can you do with them?? Do owners find it difficult to compete at shows, dressage etc..

I would be interested to let me hear your experiences??

Have had both! They are versitile. Its just like having a ex racer they just take some extra schooling to retrain especially the pacers to get them to trot more than pacing though it is comfy riding in a pace!
The trotter Skoot was a wonderful broodmare too taught her foals loads of manner she stood for nononsense!!

I have a french trotter, and have had her since 0ct last year. found it very hard to get her a saddle as her shoulders are very stong but her top line very poor, but all sorted now, she has a brilliant temperament and very affectionate would make a brilliant brood mare. we have come on leaps and bounds but the canter transition is proving a challenge, but we are getting there slowly. if you need any help just p.m me. Also had her taken to an event yard and they all said that she would make a brilliant drassage horse, as a very classy trot...

My friend had a pacer, didn't take that long to retrain him and he jumped like a stag, though if we were on the beach galloping he would usually go back top pacing cos it was faster than his gallop and he used to pass my horse

so seems like most who have one try to retrain them... rather than stick with what they do?

surely there is very little to do if they still pace???

tell me if i'm wrong? pls

So we shouldn't retrain any race horse??

It can be the same reason that they are just not fast enough to win races so rather than shot can be moved on in to another job.

Pacers do trot & canter to it's just a case of retraining them to what we would like them to do.

don't be such a twit!

i am asking a question not starting a row!!! please read posts correctly before replying!!

So... is it that most owners prefer to re-train them not to pace?? yes - no??

Please don't expect me to suck eggs we have ex-racehorses!!
