Pacing and whineing?

So Barney is completley chilled apart from one issue ..

He sleeps in my room (not on the bed anymore, he kept rolling off and hurting himself :rolleyes:) and my mum goes out early in the morning at about 6am-ish.
But from the moment my mum goes out he paces and whines for about half hour even though hes been in my room and not seen her actually go. Ive tried taking him out ect to check hes not whineing because he needs the toilet but its not :confused:

So normally i get up and open my bedroom door and pop his muzzle on incase i fall asleep again because the cats in. And he walks around the house and then comes back to me and whines, he normally does that a few times then goes to sleep again on his bed in my room.

I dont know wether its better to leave my door shut so he doesnt pace, or open the door so he paces and whines but can see everything going on? Ideas? :confused:

Eta - Hes not particuarlly attached to my mum, isnt fussed about her coming and going in the afternoon - only in the morning

He's just trying to let you know someone has left the pack - he doesn't have to see to know. Maybe get your mum to pop him a bone or a treat to keep him busy and create a positive experience with her leaving.
 
He is as CC suggests just unsettled at the noise,someone leaving, me personally would give out a rather pished off "lie down" cos Im a grumpy cow when im tired, the man obsessed poodle I have in (rescue at present) does it when OH leaves the house, so Im off to bed shortly from night shift and she will whinge when he comes in aswell, I raise my angry as hell head and yell "lie down now" to which she does immediately cos she wants to avoid me actually getting out of my bed:rolleyes:
U need to get him into a rotutine, someone leaves, he has to settle and lie back down.
 
Haha Cayla, im a bit like that in the morning after the 5th time hes woken me up after his rounds of the house and comes back to announce shes definiatly gone :rolleyes: I wouldnt mind but im not getting enough sleep as it is :(

Thanks CC .. i will continue the search for something that he will eat and is 110% sure its not going to poison him! Hes got all sorts of bones/chews/treats and he wont touch any of them .. happy to try and eat the laptop though :mad::p
 
He is still trying to get into a routine. When Cliff starts to winge I click my fingers with a voice back up. He got so used to that that i now only need click my fingers and he shuts up, you don't wake yourself up so much with a click kof the fingers.
The only problem with giving a treat when your mum leaves the house is this will become routine and he'll whine for the treat then.

Strong firm shut up and lie down, then as soon as he is quite a sweet nice good boy. soon a click of the fingers will be all you need.

Cliff did this a lot. They are very sensitive dogs but will soon learn they are very intelligent.


Anyway, you glad you got him finally?

Yup but your forgetting STUBBORN! :p When he doesnt want to do somthing hes a big lad to shift!
 
LOL, Cliff too, when he is comfy he is a nightmare to shift, normally when he is comfy to my discomfort.

Love him though.....Greyhounds rock as pets. :D

Oh yes, keep waking up with dead legs. Im guessing by that warm bit of bed and hairs and the shifty look on his face he was asleep on my legs a few seconds earlier :rolleyes:

Yup! Hes starting to work out the doors are solid finally too! (dark brown and wooden .. would have though that was obvious ;))

He's probably just getting used to the way your household works. I too am in favour of the grumpy "lie down" response or you are rewarding something that really irritates you :rolleyes: If all else fails give him a crate to sleep in and pop a blanket over it to help him block out other sounds / activity
 
lol doors were an issue for Cliff too, but mind you we have some doorways that have curtains which he can go through and they are solid in colur, so it took him a while to figure out which ones he could go through and under and which ones he had to wait for me to open...

He has one hard head. never bothered him running into a door head first.

Oh and the tail is hard when wagging it's like some one has unleashed a lunge stick on me. :p
