Has anyone used a Fylde impact pad under a Snape or Thorn type pad?

Just looking to give a little spinal clearance for an older pony, but still look smart for showing.

Thank you.

We use a sheepskin numnah with the cut-out gullet and an old style HM Seatbone saver (Ann Rees I think it says on it - basically is soft memory foam rather than the current hard foam HM is using) between that and the saddle. Creates a nice channel for the withers so the pad doesn’t pull on them, and is super comfy for pony and child. You would need a smaller numnah than we have to make it neater, but the seat saver is nice and neat. If I had the need and the money, I would ask the Equitex people to make me a pad small enough for the Thorn pad, as I have used those pads successfully for years under my adult treeless saddles.

Picture below of our set-up - we don’t show so colours don’t all match!

Glad it works for you but obviously the HM pad isn't designed for use under the saddle so I'd advise proceeding with extreme caution.

Has worked for us for years. It’s just a (very) soft, memory foam pad - nothing hard to injure anyone, and can be anchored with the straps over the saddle flaps. Doesn’t cause slipping, cannot cause injury, stops the pad pulling down hard on the wither as it rises up at the front. Very happy ponies who can be tacked up loose without them moving away.

In contrast, treed saddle
- week one, fits beautifully, happy ponies.
- week two, all good
- somewhere between weeks 3 and 6, pony starts to eye saddle with suspicion
- next week: pony moves away at sight of saddle. Saddle fitter needed, adjusted/new saddle and it starts again.
And repeat until they are adults and we can keep the same saddle on for a decent amount of time!

As I say, glad it works for you, my comment was aimed at the OP.
