ok so i got myself a little stunnig JRT puppy who was 9 weeks old weds.

I have had her for 2 weeks and wanted to pad train her so when im out she doesnt use the carpet.

She has a crate thats shes in when im out and thats fine but when shes in the just goes anywhere! I keep picking her up and putting her on the puppy pad when i see her so and tell her no but she just legs it.

I have tried to use the pad to soak up the wee to mark her sent on it but she has only used it a few times and i gave her loads of praise.

Can anyone reccommend me some ways of getting her to go on the pad please before my carpet takes too much more punishment.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

I have never used a pad to train a puppy, but this is how I go about house training. The key is to being alert and spending as much time as possible with the pup. A pup needs to go out frequently, basically every time she wakes up, take her outside and give her what ever command you are using. Don't just leave her out there but stay until she does something, then loads of praise and a little game. Do the same after feeds, after playing ec. You will soon start to recognise the signs, she will usually start walking round sniffing before she does something, that is the time to take her outside. When you are not about use the cage as you are doing, I presume you are putting the pad at one end and she is using it?
Tbh it sounds to me as if you are telling her no when she has had a wee, which is making her think she is doing wrong. If she has an accident in the house don't tell her off, just take her outside again.
House training is hard work, some get the idea quite quickly others take ages, but you will get there with time and patience. Good luck.

Agree with MM, i have also never used pads, to me it's just another stage that needs to be tackled to get the puppy to pass motions outside as basically it's always been acceptible to do it indoors and I assume u want her to eventually go out doors and not pee on pads forever, j.r.t's are not the easiest of breed to house train, so I would teach her to go out to the toilet and not on the pads, by following MM' suggestions of letting her out frequently and praising her when passing motions outdoors and using her crate when u cannot supervise her, don't for instance do the housework and leave her to run around the house, as this way she can not be corrected and guided where u want her when she begins to show signs of wanting a wee or pooh, so basically in crate when u are not there with her and in your sights at all times when she is and pick her up and take her straight out when she starts to circle or croutch in the "im about to crap mode"

As soon as you release her from the crate carry her straight to the garden as this is also the basis of guiding her to the accepted pooper passing area

same after play time and feed time.

When u are out in the garden interact with her and play with her when she randomly passes motions call out good girl wee wee's or pooh pooh

She will eventually be able to hold it all day - why bother train her indoors at all? Just train her to go outside and then she'll learn to hold it during the day. My puppy is 6 months and she holds easily for 8/9 hours now!

IMO you'll never train her to only go on the pads, how is she ever going to distinguish between pads and carpet?!
