Morning all - I was just hoping you could please recommend a company who would be able to come around and spray our paddocks? As unfortunately we do have The Dreaded Weed (was here when we moved & needs annual spraying to keep under control) . Other than the obvious Shropshire Paddock Care Services, is there anyone else who does this? Many thanks x

I got quotes locally for spraying mine last year and they were in the £hundreds- I eventually managed to borrow a quad with a spray pack, to hit the buttercups hard. If you can't find someone local it costs a lot in travelling time/diesel for them, have you tried your local agricultural contractors. There are several around here - where in Shropshire are you?
TBH I find it just as easy to do it a bit at a time with a knapsack, even on 13 acres I can keep it under control a patch at a time. One patch which was overrun I had ploughed and reseeded but it was out of use for grazing for over a year.

I always use Shropshire Paddock Care. Craig is professional, and does a good job. He built a menage for us 2 years ago. Best money we have spent! You could do it yourself with a backpack, but he has access to the proper weedkiller chemicals.

Craig did my manege (whole other story) and then offered to spray for the "discounted rate" of X. Was more expensive than any of the other contractors, probably on a time basis as I think he was talking quad. A man with a tractor and decent spray boom will do it in a fraction of the time - but it very much depends on the acreage, probably a quad is more economical if you are talking about an acre or thereabouts. You can get the chemicals if you have a holding number, which very very easy to obtain from Defra.

Out of interest what is the going rate for weed spraying and fertilising?

Craig @ Shrops Paddock Care charged me £340 to spray and fertilise 2 acres of grazing. Didn't question it at the time as was desperate to have it done. Had lots of weeds come back through so he said he'd come back to spray them again but didn't turn up until 4 months later to do it

My haylage contractor, (Steve Banks)when asked, said he wouldn't really like to spray my 8 acre field because he would have to charge me over £100! The one the local agri suppliers gave me congtact details for wanted more like £250 but they were coming from over 20 miles away. Fertiliser is really really expensive - I stopped doing mine when I was spending £300 on it to gain £250 worth of extra hay. And I have mine spread with the rotted muck, don't want the grass any better than that.
Are you now weed free sophiebailey?

We had our menage built by shropshire paddock care and we are really pleased with it . The surface of silica sand and rubber rides great even in the winter :) They also do all of our weed spraying each year and the important thing to remember is they apply the correct chemicals and slow release fertilisers for horses and these things obviously cost money ! I have found their services very professional and I would recomend shropshire paddock care :)))
