What are you all using? my field is over grazed and needs some tlc that's not gonna break the bank need 1 acre doing x

It is always worthwhile doing the job properly when it comes to field maintenance.

If you just want to overseed I would be tempted to have a soil test taken just to check if their are any defficiencies in the soil that require attention.
I would then get a specialist grass land contractor in to harrow your field and overseed it and then roll it.

Have a google and see who is competitive for a single sack. We use Boston seeds - good prices and they are close to us so we can collect rather than pay for delivery.

Don't get anything with clover in. The old guy who owns my fields brought a 'pony mix' grass seed and we battled thick clover for years until we purposely over grazed it so it didn't come back!

I like meadow mania - nice mix of old grasses and herbs and no ryegrass or clover which up the risk of lami.

Can anyone advise me please - when is the best time to overseed? Does it need to be a certain temp for best results??
Thanks :)

Its best to wait for warmer weather, im waiting to do my fields, i always use grass screenings, which is sweepings up, £50 for a 20kg sack.

The seed will need to be warm (+6 degrees) and wet to germinate. Here in Lincs the farmer are yet to sow spring barley as it's too dry here and it will rot/ get eaten by birds if it's sown and doesn't start growing.
Tricky to find the right moment when it's warm enough over night but still wet enough - usually nice spring April with lots of showers does the trick - BUT not this year here in Lincs!!
