Hi, I have decided to make up some of these to help with feeding hay in the feild. Those of you who have made your own, what sort of mesh did you use? And where did you get it from? Any tips greatly appreciated!!

I had a look on'tinernet and was not sure whether I would need 3mm twine but I did want small holes as mine are very greedy, so I bought this as a cheap trial piece which I have been very happy with

The twine is about 2mm, the size of a Shire dual coloured haylage net and it has about 1 1/2 inch holes which is a challenge for them but not impossible. So far its holding up well, its very unlikely if they have no shoes they will get caught in it and there is loads of net to experiment with for under £20 which I could not find cheaper on line.http://hayandforage.com/horses/hay-feeders-save-horse-owners-money

I use small holed haynets and thread through the tie rope so there are no gaping bits. However nugz is unshod so minimal risk of him getting caught compared to a shod horse, and he has them loose.

If they are being clipped to the fence then you chose whatever size hole you want! Which reminds me, I have 3mm Cardoline roll waiting for me to get on and make some netting!!

The ones that are designed to be loose in the paddock I have seen have been made of webbing and are sewn. I was thinking of replicating, but rivetting the joints as I think will be tougher than stitching (as I have a domestic sewing machine!)
