At the moment my paddock is free as i have no horse at the mo, and all of a sudden i have dot leafs coming everywhere in big groups i have tried pulling them and strimming them but they keep coming back, im worried if i put a horse or pony in there they will eat them, if they did will it cause them any harm? i cant use any fertilizers as its a grazing field, help anyone got any advice to get rid of them?

do you mean docks?? they are fairly harmless, but you want to get rid of them because they displace the grass as do nettles, best bet if there no stock on the field is to spray a selective weed killer with a knapsack sprayer then you can just do the docks and nettles if you want to keep wild flowers and nice weeds...

Im afraid spraying them is really the only option, they have really long roots which are impossible to pull up. They will keep multiplying if you dont take action and get worse each year.
You can get a weed killer which is selective for dock leaves just follow the instructions, the field might have to be restricted from grazing for a few days not too sure but just read the instructions. And wear the proper safety gear!

I'd spray them, i use Grazon 90 in a knapsack sprayer and only spray the docks and weedy bits. It doesn't kill the grass and you only need to keep animals off it for a fortnight.

appylass, i don;t suppose you know where i can order this from? x

I get it from my local agricultural supplier (Wynnstay) not sure if they do mail order though. Countrywide also sell it as well as local independent agricultural stores.

I just googled Grazon 90 and it seems you could buy it quite easily on line too.
