Erm.....it's probably just me.....but I'd be interested to hear your comments about the Shetland that is pictured on page 58 this week??!

See....to my lay person eyes.....that mare looks FAT!! Like REALLY fat!

I was wondering what other people thought since I only really have experience with tbs.

Someone definately ate all the pies :D

I spotted that and had a grimace.
When I can get into photobucket later I might post a pic of my fat shetland who I know was too fat and was in the process of helping him to lose weight who was still placed at a show in an M&M class!!!
(we didn't think he would be placed and only took him out to give bubs some ring time)

Ok, finally got into PB.
When this chap arrived at the stables he was more than double size he is in this pic!! It was a case of his old owners kindness killing him slowly. After weeks and weeks of lunging and walking (he would be taken out for walks like a dog!!) he was thinner but IMO still far too fat-but the M&M judge said he was lovely....if a tiny bit underweight!!!!

Well if we're going by H&H show reports he is WAY too skinny to win anything! :D It's total madness, I actually thought the mare in H&H was a stallion because of that massive neck. Crazy!

LOL I better get me down to the feed merchants for lots of feed cus the poor sod is on grass rations and thats his lot!!!
I did wonder if I shoud take him to the show in such an awful state!!

On a serious note.....it horrified me to be told he could do with weight putting on and that he was probably the leanest in the ring!!! :0

Just had a look.

Personally I would agree the mare could probably lose a few pounds, but isn't as bad as you might initially think. She does have quite a thick neck, but so do most standard shetlands. It's important to remember this is a full up standard, not a little miniature. I show for a stud up north and have seen shetlands in a variety of weights, and even when on the thin side their necks are pretty huge. The standard is a big chunky beast of a pony.

Also with who owns her, it's also fairly safe to assume that she will have had a foal, as thats a working stud. So, that helps to account for the slightly rotund stomach.

As for the term tricolor, it's a term for something in the showring. I think it might be when they take the class, the shetland championship and the overall championship, but not entirely certain. I've never got near it before!
