H&H have featured the King George V cup which was held in April - judging of the CB stallions - so what do you think of Tregoyd Topper?

Thanks H&H for finally covering this event!!

What a stunner! Lucky donkey.

I love the write up of their win, they obviously love Topper so much and seem like such genuinely nice people.

You may just about be weaning me off TB's......

Have those foals got reeeeeally big ears or is it just me?? (not that I've got big ears, you understand

) They're very, very cute though. Can't open the stallion page, but Topper looks very handsome in the little pic on first page

Our farm is next door to tregoyd cleveland bays. I often ride past their fields, they have some amazing horses! They had a lovely coloured foal a year ago.

Haha £2500-3000 this time next year (IF I manage to save everything and don't eat for a year)!
Seriously though I do like the middleweight type (and preferably huge). What's the general CB temperament like?

Temperment second to none (they can have a stubborn streak but I like that) Keep an eye on Horsemart, just type Cleveland Bay into the breed, have seen several part breds going for as little as £1,500 - I was tempted!!

I saw that in H&H & thought of you straight away!!! Have a breeder of them just up the road!!

No, no, no - she's promised to Prince (Lindon Principal) at Lincoln University! He's going in the ridden class at the Royal soon, more for education and to support the class than anything else, but you never know. The university has had one filly foal this year and has another pure bred and a part bred due in a week or so. CB foals have enormous ears, it is one of the characteristics of the breed, but of course it is more obvious when their heads are smaller. Actually, the foals are enormous generally now I come to think of it. A vet nurse who came to see the mare and foal after foaling was dictating notes into a dictaphone as she went and as she walked towards Dorothy, the mare, she was heard to say "And we are now going towards Dorothy, who is the size of a small tenement block...". Which she is.

Trouble is though I think Topper is the perfect build, he's smaller than Lindon - I want to produce smaller CB's that can be used for hunters etc!!! My options are open until next year though!!!

Prince isn't actually all that big -is he bigger than Topper? His father was 17.2, but his mother was only 15.3 and he was under 16 for a long time. He has been taken hunting this year. Colin Green, who owns Topper, lives in the Black Hills in South Wales and his horses are kept very much "au naturel". Look well on it, though, don't they? I think that's the thing about CB's, they do scrub up well. One minute they're looking like furry feral ponies then you take a brush to them and there they are, all imposing and shiny.
