Daisy dogs is on box rest again ? she has, twice today, yelped today in pain when stretching her hind legs. No lameness, limping or pain on palpation. Will get her to the vets tomorrow but any thoughts?

Only an x-ray in the correct position can identify hip dysplasia. If she is over 12 months you could get them done for your own piece of mind with a vet who's experienced in such matters.

I had a 6.5yo totally redone about a year ago (hips, elbows, spine, hocks, stifle) after he looked not quire right.
I'd always recomend this in a large active dog doing a sport or regular explosive work.
Everything was fine, he must have just pulled something but it would have eaten away at me, not knowing.

Reduce jumping, no ball chasing, hydrotherapy, acupuncture it e, massage and good supplements. Possibly anti inflammatories, there are some alternatives to prescription medication that many people swear by, it's worth starting a new thread if you wanted to look into that as you will get lots if advice.

Most people medicate, use hydro, there are other alternative therapies. Replacement is also an option for some dogs but no one I know would contemplate that, although a certain TV vet has popularised the procedure.

But you won't know without an x-ray, I would never let a vet diagnose it, without. She might just have pulled something.

My understanding was that dogs with hip dysplasia are more likely to lie with their legs out behind them than dogs without. Happy to be corrected on that though.

That's what I was going to say but we have had Labs that did it, especially as pups, who had no hip trouble even in old age.

Do you think the increase in the jumping with the agility she's been doing recently may have aggravated something?

It's far from impossible but I suspect it's more down to my husband chucking a ball about with her this morning using the ball launcher (he's finally accepted that it really isn't good for her ? ).

Weirdly she stretched multiple times this evening, including with her back legs straight out of the sofa and front legs on the floor and hasn't even made a grumble ??

Let's hope it was just a twinge then and now it's resolved/

Mine did whatever it was he did, taking off for a jump. I'd put in a bounce and he squeaked on landing after the first so I stopped him, walked him a round a bit and put him away, and then he was sore when stretching in the house later. He was almost imperceptibly light on one rear leg also. After x-rays I rested him and he was on Loxicom, I think he didn't leave the ground again for a month and then was built up slowly again.
