Last night I had a really sore aching hip. It woke me up a couple of times and still hurts today. What have I done to it?

I normally have a bad back and a bad knee but this is a new one. It's a bit unpleasant really.

Is it just the onset of old age?

Unless it is the result of an injury (off to docs for you!) then I would go to a physio and get checked out. No need to have painful joints - esp if one sided.

i have pain in my left hip. after visitig the doctors as i couldnt sleep at night with it, it turned out i had strained my ligaments.
im pregnant which he said wouldnt have helped matters really but he said i probably hurt them riding my rather wide cob
he gave me some cream to rub into the hip and it has now (touches wood) been fine for a few weeks now.
but he did warn me that they may flare up every now and again

I have lots of achey joints, especially in winter. I have very long joints, so the ligaments are weaker, plus hyper-mobility, meaning I can "click" my hip (its a good party trick and freaks people out, but does hurt a bit lol). Anyway, my hips used to hurt a lot at night, particularly if I slept on my side. Try taking glucosamine/chondroiting supplements - it helped me a lot. I haven't had problems for ages *touch wood*!

this ^ (except the pregnant bit.... bit too young for that yet! haha
i did mine mounting a lagre horse that decided to walk off as i got on. didnt notice till i got off and it started to hurt. I got refered to a physio and had some infrared 'stuff' on it to settle everything down and then some exercises to strengthen it again.
I wasnt supposed to ride for about 6 weeks i think it was. (but i may have cheated a little :o )

You should go and get it checked out. I have hip pain in my left hip and have had it for quite some time now. I've done the whole physio thing etc and I'm now having an operation on 15th December. I've torn my Labrum and have an impingement which needs removing. This is just wear and tear as I can't remember doing anything specific.

It may just be a strain but you should get checked. Hope it eases off very soon for you

What is that? It sounds horrible. I hope it is much better once it is fixed!

I'm sure it's because I have a bad knee which has been aching a bit and so I've been walking like a wally recently. Plus I rode for the first time in weeks on Monday

I had a bad accident last year and not sure how landed but broke left foot but mashed up right side of face so think must of been twisted. Since then my hips have randomly hurt, sometime just sudden cramp like pain which then led to aching for a few days. Sometimes obviously caused by riding. I have tried everything but eventually went to docs. I got "have you tried not riding?", follwed by "how about pain killers?", eventually got a referal to musco skeletal people who have said physio at home for 3 months before they will investigate.

Feel a bit lost really as no one will take it seriously. I would go to docs but dont take their rubbish suggestions just sit it out and refuse to leave room without a referral.
