'Paint' horse selling at Newmarket

He'll find a niche somewhere, if he does no good on the track he'll probably turn up going round Badminton in a few years time, or standing at some stud somewhere for people wanting the chance of getting overo sporthorses rather than the more usual tobianos you see in the UK:D

The UK will take time to get used to painted Tb's, they aren't so unusual here, horses for courses and all that, not to everyone's taste. Overos are far more dramatically patterned than tobianos and not everyone likes the white face that often comes with them, just as I won't breed from a tobiano because I don't like their pattern.

love the markings, looks wise he is gorgeous, but isn't he lame? Looks to have some stifle issues to me, not a promising sign in one so young.

I dont think hes overly lame behind as such, hes just very upright behind, so both hind legs are very straight. This could improve with age, though it can be a desirable trait for a race horse. So all and all he doesnt look a bad sort.

Very straight behind, common conformational fault that leads to stifle problems.
Looks like that leg is stepping short, but might rectify itself with age, they can go either way I guess!

Those of you who are interested and are on Facebook go to Coloured Thoroughbred Breeders Assoc and you will find out a lot more about the coloured TB's in the UK, USA and AUS. He sold for 11,000 GNS and is by an Overo called I Was Framed (USA) who was standing in the UK but I believe he's now in France.

Having seen my last years foal go through the ring, I went back up to meet up with some friends just as the coloured colt went in. The ring was packed and everyone had their cameras out. The auctioneer was making comments like "Cowboys and Indians" etc etc and cameras were flashing everywhere. When the hammer went down at 11k, there was a round of applause. He got sold to a bloodstock agent I know, who said he was buying him for a client to go into training with Andrew Reid (who if he still is, is based in London). He said the plan was that "they might race him". He does actually have a decent winning mares line and the stallion used to stand close to where i now live. Artist Jacquie Jones was taking lots of photos of him so no doubt she will soon be at work on a water colour of him.

I did feel sorry though for the yearling who followed him into the ring as, as soon as the coloured colt left, the auction ring emptied and there were hardly any prospective buyers about then.

I think we will be seeing a lot more coloured horses of various types on the racetracks next year our boy is going back into training n january and we have spaces left in the syndicate for more people to join £50 a month so a lot cheaper than many syndicates.
The trainers we have talked to love coloureds several flat trainers have said it will only take one horse to win or get placed and that will be it!
I hope our massive gamble will pay off at least we can now guarentee all the foals we breed will be coloured as our homebred Homozygous 7/8ths is covering our mares next year.
I think it will be very exciting to see coloured racehorses proving they can cut it on the track.
The coloured TB breeders page on facebook has overos from The US and the first foals from down under to be loudly expressed
