My stables (inside a barn) are quite dark so I am pondering painting the insides white. They are lined with wood chip shuttering board, and I know the lower half should be black to not show poo stains etc. I was thinking black wood stain and white emulsion to allow the wood to breathe - anyone done it, anyone know if either product is toxic? I don't have horses who chew the wood, and it would be difficult with no protruding corners but you never know. Any ideas that won't need a second mortgage please?

I've got rubber parlour paint on mine, black at the bottom and white on top. It's brilliant, as looks so much cleaner. Mine are breeze block. Plus the paint is water based. Have a chat with A I Paint supplies, they specialize in agricultural / equine paint

The bottom half of mine is painted with the same wooden fencing paint that I painted the outsides with. The top half was painted with white emulsion. They've been like this for years and I've never had a problem. One of mine is lined with OSB board.

I used exterior paint when I did my stable. Just don't do what I did...think to clean the floor AFTER I had washed down the walls.
