Undercoat them if you want them to last - you can use white emulsion if you want to save money. Then 2 coats of exterior gloss.

V boring doing coat after coat, but then they'll last better.

You can get one coat gloss these days which has an undercoat 'built-in'. Obviouisly, the more effort you put in up front the better the end job will be though and the longer it will last

I also used gloss paint mostly when we did ours. Also used matt emulsion........probably not the best thing to use but has withstood a winter! On the safe side I would go with what the others have said as they will last longer!

Undercoat & then exterior gloss topcoat, possibly two coats of exterior gloss. You could also paint them with the various colours of Fencelife which is quick & easy.

Best tip to make them stay looking good longer is don't leave them outside & uncovered through the winter. Take them in & store them or at least cover them with a tarp.

Would you really want to use gloss? We're in France and the glare is amazing!
We used a satin finish and, apart from Himself eating the paint off, they look great a year on!
We also used spray car pain for the fillers (Tiget Teeth). and that's lasted incredibly well too!!
