Hi

This year we moved house and now have stables at home (yeah!). They are a wooden block, with Monarch internal partitions. The daft thing is they weren't built on a course of bricks so I'm obviously going to have to take extra care of them. I need to treat the external wood obviously, so any recommendations of brands/products in terms of value for money/easy of application/protection?

Also, the non-Monarch internal walls (ie back and front, and the ends of the block), are just thick ply or something. Currently they are just in their natural state I think. I'd like to paint them to brighten the insides up just a bit, probably black bottom, white higher up. However I'm also wondering if I should be trying to protect this surface too? If so do you get coloured treatments, or am I stuck with normal emulsion. Is normal emulsion what you'd normally use?

Sorry - so many questions! About to post another one on my muck heap

I'd paint one of those water-repellent paints on the bottoms of the partitions, i think, if they're not on a brick course and are likely to start rotting.
Spray-on cuprinol is easy to apply, did our shelters with it, but a year later it looks as if it's never been done. Good old creosote or whatever the modern equivalent is the only one that doesn't seem to fade to nothing in the sunlight.
or... there's the fab stuff that we painted our summerhouse with, comes with a 10 yr guarantee, it came from Scandinavia (where they know a thing or two about protecting wooden buildings against the elements). it was stupidly expensive, but if i don't have to do it for 10 years, it's worth it. can find deets if you like, but you might have a heart attack at the price!

Details would be great thanks. Although, I'm going to have to do 4 stables, shed and a very long fence all in the same treatment otherwise it'll look daft - so I may not be going for the mega-expensive stuff!
