Painting walls in horse box living area

A friend of mine is looking to renovate the living quarters of an older large Mercedes horse box. The walls seems to be covered in something that is a bit furry or a bit like felt.

Has anyone ever found a way to improve walls like this? Can the walls be painted, and if so, with what?

That sounds like van lining. I've just put it into my living.

I have no idea how you'd paint it and I suspect the best way is to have it removed but it may also require the ply lining it is glued to is removed. You'd then need to replace that which could end up quite expensive.

Could she put cladding over the top of it?
