Well, lovely as it is that Fabio and Freddy are getting on so well, it has become apparent that it is also a little bit of a problem. We have little Izzy too but she does her own thing and the boys really aren't interested in her!
I took Freddy for a solo hack yesterday and it wasn't great. As soon as we went out the gate Fabio started whinnying for him and in turn made Freddy really nappy. Persevered with circling every time he started going backwards and did get him going forwards. By this point Fab was galloping round the paddock (we were the other side of the hedge) like a loony which really wasn't helping things! Got to the end of the road and some kind person had dumped a big box on the verge which Fred wasn't like him so i got off to lead him past as tbh didn't want to undo the work i'd just done so easier to get off and give him a bit of reassurance. Led him up the road a bit then got back on. He was fine if not a bit keen to get home but did walk back. Fab was fine when we got back in!
Now Fabio - put Freddy back and took Fab out for a hack. Little whinny from Fred but no issues. Fab's always fine to take away from his buddy and doesn't even bat an eyelid at them calling for him when he's going out. Its just when he's left he doesn't like it. Would also explain him not liking going last when we're out too which he's always been like. When we hacked the other week i let OH go first and Fab just went like a tank up the hill after them when i let him go and wasn't listening to me at all, brakes were a bit (lot!) of an issue!!!! He's always strong when following but i think the fact his pal was leaving him behind just sent him over the edge! But when we'd went first earlier he was fine and i had to kick him on a bit!!!
So, have some things to work on. Anyone else had similar problems with 2 horses getting attached? I've read that some of the essential oils/rescue remedy can help but never used them before.
