Pajero 2.5td SWB reviews and for towing?

I've have a 93 SWB for 5 years. Use it to tow an old Bahill with one horse & its always been great - no complaints! I'm not sure I'd want to tow two big horses with it but certainly for 1 horse or 2 littlies its fine.

I had the 2.8 auto swb pajero, it was fab and although a little thirsty on fuel maintanance costs were minimal - due to high mileage I traded in for a 04 plate Mits Shogun Sport 2.5

I tow 2 large horses no problem.............I would definitly recommend Mits Pajero's / Shoguns

i have just tried googling this...

from what i have found the GVW of this vehicle is 1950kg. therfore this leaves you with a safe towing capacity of 1658kgs which is 85%.

the trailer i would be towing is approx 900kgs unladen? (ifor 505 hunter) and a 16.3 working hunter weight is 600kgs leaving me with 1500kgs which i would be towing.

seems i am ok however....

I was wondering what the procedures are for checking that a driver is entitled to tow a trailer.

I have tried researching to try and find will I be legal to tow or not?

Some say that you will be weighed at a weigh bridge and if you are within the 3500kgs you will be fine. Others say that the checkpoint people will read the maximum amount that the trailer can potentially carry and base it on this even should the trailer be empty?

From my calculation I would be under the 3500kgs with the weights taken into account for the vehicle, trailer and load. I have also calculated to make sure my vehicle can safely tow my trailer with the load i will be carrying. All is correct however I'm now concerned that the checkpoint would actually calculate the gross vehicle weight of the towing vehicle and the maximum potential weight that the trailer could carry and base whether to fine me or not on this?

As you will understand I would like to know the situation before I go and buy a vehicle and trailer to find that it isn't legal!!

i have sent an email to VOSA to see can they possibly clear this one up as the SWB pajero which is 1950 GWV would then be illegal to tow a ifor 505 which is maximum potential carrying weight of 2400 kgs!!!

GOD IM SOOOOOOOO CONFUSED....

When did you pass your test?? If before jan 1997 you will be fine. If later you will have to take a towing test to gain your B+E entitlement.

Please forget the 85% "rule" it is NOT a rule but a RECOMMENDATION from the caravan club regarding towing single axle caravans with a family hatchback!! A whole different kettle of fish to towing livestock in twin axle trailers with proper towing vehicles.
I am not over familiar with shoguns, but I believe they are planted to tow 3.5 tons, braked (horse trailers are braked BTW) so you will be totally fine on that front.
Even given the maximum authorised mass of the trailer this still gives you just over 1000kgs to play with. It's the gross train weight you must NOT exceed, this is found on the VIN plate in the engine bay. You'll have the long number which is the vehicle I.D number (vin) kerbweight, then the towing capacity, then the GTW which I believe for a shogun is around 5250kg.

so - trailer 900kg
horse 600kg
car 1950kg
passengers tack water etc say, 300kgs all come to 3750kgs - well under the GTW.

i believe you can tow upto 750kg if passing you test after jan 1997 which isnt exactly alot. if you wish to tow more and passed your test after jan 1997 then you need to take the original test to be legal.

i will be taking my trailer test so will be ok that way however i want to be sure my vehicle would be ok to tow a fully laden ifor 505 (not that this wud ever be the case)!

I think the law should be explained in simple form, its unfair not given clear guidelines then convicting people for it!!! grrrr

ok so my combination should be fine then?

does anyone know the gross train weight, unladen weight, the MAM for the 2.5? I NEVER THOT IT WUD BE THIS HARD TO PURCHASE A 4X4
