Just wondering if, in the way that paler (pinker) skin in a horse (under the grey hair) is supposed to be more sensitive or weaker (is that actually correct/true?), that pale hooves are the same? Only pondering this as I have noticed how my coloured with grey legs seems to find it very cold on his feet at the moment - fine on the grass when there's a covering of snow or frozen ruts but a bit uncomfortable when he stands by the gate on the icy mud and really seems to not like standing for too long outside his stable on the concrete when it drops below freezing of an evening whilst I'm picking out his feet and grooming before I put him in. I know metal shoes will probably make it all feel worse in very cold temperatures - I'm assuming this is like my hands/nails touching metal in the very cold. He's a robust hardy native type in all other capacities!
