Pancreatitis advice sought again !

My dog has pancreatitis, which is supposedly being managed by a specialist low fat diet. However, every 4 days or so he seems to have an attack which usually resolves itself by the afternoon. A friend of mine's dog years ago had daily tablets which she said kept hers well but I have spoken to vet and they haven't recommended anything. Anyone got any other helpful ideas. He did have ant acid tablets which on researching are not thought to help with pancreatitis !

How much exercise do you give him? My mum's JRT has pancreatitis that's been managed by a Hill's ID diet for years, but if she has an unusual amount of exercise this can trigger an acute episode. Just on the offchance that every 4 days you're taking him for a longer walk...

Otherwise do you think it could be related to the timings of feeding if it tends to happen in the morning? Having said that, the timing and duration of attacks sounds unusual for pancreatitis, IME they tend to either 'rumble' for a while before resolving or be more acute and not improve for a few days after active intervention, have you considered it could be unrelated?

ETA - final thought, sometimes the low fat diets can cause anal gland problems as they don't have particularly high fibre. I don't suppose the symptoms resolving coincide with him relieving himself, and you've not noticed any excessive back-end licking?

Hi Possum. Dog is not a fan of exercise, especially if there is any form of wet about ! He has two 20 min outings and a last wee.
He is always fine the night before, has last meal about 5 p.m. When hes going to be off colour I hear him having noisy tum rumblings at about 7 the next morning, you can practically set your clock by him. He mopes around, doesn't want his morning bikky or anything else or a proper walk, is usually sick with a bit of bile and flecks of blood in it, then by about early afternoon he perks up and decides he wants his dinner. Have told all this to the vet (two different vets in fact) and they both put it down to the pancreatitis, he has had all the tests to confirm the diagnosis. He had a really bad attack in the Spring when I nearly lost him. FRom what I have read in various dog books I wonder if he is also suffering from gastritis or similar. Doesn't have any anal gland problems or any rear end problems !
