Hi all

Well thought I would post warts and all
frown.gif

It was our last event today at Tweseldown an IN but wish now I had done PN
blush.gif

Saf warmed up well for the dressage and we equaled our score from Borde Hill with a 44.3 for Int test 136 although it felt a must softer test could not get to grips with the counter canter where Saf gets tence as she feels we are going wrong bless, don't you hate all those times when she was younger and I made her canter on the correct leg all the time
wink.gif

Back to the lorry for 3 1/2 wait

We retired in the SJ at Borde Hill after a horrid skid into a fence so I was very pleased when she warmed up so well, into the ring but she did not respect the plastic fences one bit had two silly fences down before a similar stop and skid but came back around and jumped it perfectly although she had now got very strong thinking she was in trouble. Finished on 16 plus time

Decided to still go XC although was feeling a bit poo as SJ is usually our strong point, think I had underestimated how much last weeks skid has effected her

Bad bad mummy

Well came out of the start box and that was the last time I had control
crazy.gif

Jumped 1 and 2 very fast and had to do large detour to 3 to try and get control, who am I kidding I just sat and pointed at the next two and 5 was a chair to skinny she eyed up the chair and flew and charged at the skinny
crazy.gif
, by now I was thinking I wanted to retire but I was buggered if I could stop
shocked.gif
, silly me thought the big parallel would back her off but no charged at it and the skinny to follow and then the double on angle, another huge circle to get control and off she went galloped at the trakener and eyed up the fence straight (not in it)ahead
shocked.gif
just managed to turn. By now I have to admit to being a little scared but the next two big box fences did nothing to slow her and we hit one rather hard. All of a sudden we turned towards the coffin and she said no way
blush.gif
and stopped, turned stoped again gave her a few smacks and stopped again, as upset as I am that I was eliminated at least we stopped galloping
smirk.gif

On that depressing note walked back across the hill, a few of the jump judges asked if I was ok and said how worried they were about her galloping off. To cap it all she was not even blowing
shocked.gif
Mum was glad I was in one piece as she could hear the commentary.

So was she running scared, have I over faced her? or is she too fit and far too much for me, she is 17h and I am 5ft4. It has given me loads to think about now our season is over, brakes have always been an issue but today was mad
frown.gif

Thank you for taking time to read, wish the season had finished on a higher note but at least we gained our first point a few weeks ago
smile.gif

Small rest then plan to do loads of SJ and dressage
cool.gif
Bling here we come
grin.gif

I cant comment not being an event rider but I wanted to give you a big hug and remind you that hey, the Intermediate SJ height obv wasnt a prob and the dressage was good
laugh.gif

i wouldnt worry too much, you equaled your dressage score, and the sj on the whole wasnt terrible..after all plastic ioles are easy to have down, and if the skidding affected her last week you have all winter to work on cinfidence!! all credit to u she sounds like shes still very fit at this time of year!!!
smile.gif
:) i think ull just have to forget about it and do the sj and dressage all winter to bost confidence, i am infact terrified that i will leave the season on a bad note next week at my first PN.purely because shes turned into hyper uncooperative mood this last 2 weeks!

oh dear. Maybe the winter rest will do her good?
I know I struggle with brakes and once you get panicked its bloody scary!!
Really focus on jumping over the winter and see how that goes!
Good luck!

This might sound tough but you really have to have a good think about whether she is safe to ride cross-country. Rotational falls have a higher chance of happening when a horse runs into a fence and breasts it, and how ever careful she is on the whole, you must have control xc. I got an official warning for dangerous riding for a round that sounded more in control than what you described a couple of years ago, and was told if I was seen doing it again they would ban me from riding that horse at that level. Please think about your neck! Sorry you had that end to the season, after good one with all the progress you made up the grades. I know she probably doesn't do holidays, but maybe a little rest for her then back in for some bsja over the winter? Take care, *hugs*

Oh no, sorry to hear it didnt go great
frown.gif

If its any consolation, I've been run away with at Tweseldown a fair few times and can categorically say it's v scary! Also, many horses hate that coffin- even Boss stopped there schooling once and he's generally exceptionally brave. Grinder had a stop there too yesterday and apparently it was causing loads of problems.
And on the plus side, you didnt fall off
grin.gif

Oh you poor thing. But the dressage is improving and plastic sj cause alot of problems.

I would check she is ok, have know horses to run at fences through pain - could she have tweaked something at borde hill?

I know how scary it can be going xc with no brakes, stopped taking my horse intermeadiate as he was taking off with me and would do it sj as well. I have ridden some very strong horses and it can be very difficult to get the brakes correct, but there is a bit out there that will suit you and her!

Good luck, you have all winter now to get the bling out! Royal Leisure is fab for indoor jumping!

Thanks TE the rotational fall thing did go through my mind at the time
shocked.gif

I felt like a complete passenger. she has never done this with me XC before (although brakes are an issue but this was different) so will look at all the other things first, back etc I feel a bit calmer today about it all and having looked at the SJ scores don't feel so bad about that part now. Once checked she is ok will go schooling and see how she is and have rethink over the winter
smile.gif

Thanks Boss
Saw your sis Odin looked fab
smile.gif

The coffin is where I got E last year too
frown.gif
at least this time I got closer, last year only managed to get 5 strides away

Hi
Will get Saf complete check over
smile.gif
was not like her, brake issues yes but not like that, just looked at the SJ and it did cause a lot of probs so feel slightly better.
Will defo be going to Royal Leisure, can't get away from me I hope indoors
laugh.gif

Off now to go check the girl and tell her I still love her
grin.gif

Poor you, sounds rather scary.
I know that S will run on and get strong when she's anxious, it could have just been that. I think mares sometimes decide to take charge when they lose confidence in you
shocked.gif

I also think this is a funny time of year, when they start being more erratic because the weather is changing and they are fresh, especially if she is very fit.
Maybe pressure off both of you will be good for a while, she will come out next season feeling fresh but not as fit....
Have some fun anyway with your indoor plans.

That is such a true statement SM!! I love mares and would take one anyday over a gelding but agree they are much more sensitive and quirky.

Such a shame for you and SAF, I always enjoy reading your reports as you are quite close to us. She's a lovely horse and you have done many great things this season so don't let this last outing delude you from all the good things recently. I think it's a mixture of her being very fit, end of the season, and as SM said above, taking charge of the situation if she felt a bit uneasy after the Sj'ing.

Don't lose faith!

Hopefully might see you around the Sussex BSJA cirucit this winter then?
smile.gif

Hard luck it can be really frightening when they take off like that. won't be a bad thing to have the winter to get to the bottom of it all. I am sure you will solve the problems it could easily be something like a tweaked back causing her pain.

She will probably come out a different horse next year. Have you tried Nupafeed I found that excellent as a calmer for my mare who could be very unpredicable the other thing to think about is regumate try it for a month in spring and see if that helps her behavior it made a enomous difference to one of my previous horses and none to my present one. It will work within a week so it won't take long to decide if its working.

Hi Saf,

I had a pretty rubish end to the season too, Fitz started napping and napping bad around the course, after SOE I went to Borde Hill and he did it in the SJ and the XC! I got asked to leave the course as he was just stopped then going sideways then bolting! I had no control and it was scary, luckily Cressy has taken him back and swapped him for a new pony! I now have a 4 yrold so fingers crossed for the Pavo 5yr old classes next year! Hope yours gets her confidence back soon x

Well I am going to post some photos of her on here later!!

She is lovely, but I have never had a mare before!! She has a bit more of a sain head!!
