Does paper bedding have to be treated or can you just use paper you have shredded? We have loads of bills etc we have just shredded so wondered...?

I have tried this last winter- Its actually quite hard, even a huge bin liner full is nothing. I would have needed a sack full a day (although the pony was wet and dirty)
Its didnt fluff up like normal paper so you would need a deep bed and its a nightmare to muck out!
I also tried mixing with regular baled paper which is ok just to bulk out the bed and save cash on bedding a bit.
Just be sure to remove staples! I have a friend who collects from local offices and gets enough to make it work- might be worth a try?

I love my paper bedding but doing it yourself ain't the same. And you seem to get a sort off paper dust which can't be good for their lungs which I don't get from the bought paper.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't intending to change him to paper bed or anything it is just we have an awful lot of shredded paper and just wondered if it would be worth using it (will just recycle if not). I would just mix it in with shavings but judging by comments it is probably not worth the hassle.
