I've used it before and although it was very absorbant and rotted down well on the muck heap, I found that half blew out the stable door every time it was opened, which upset the yard owner quite a bit!
Tried it once: ditto comment above about it blowing everywhere! Also I found that when it got wet it got VERY heavy and was difficult to manage for that reason alone, plus if you have a piebald with lots of white - you can expect to get a murky shade of grey where he lies down on it and the newsprint comes off!!!
Definately not an experiment worth repeating IMO. We've now gone onto the Citronella/elephant grass stuff - very highly recommended as it keeps the flys out of the stable; plus they do one in Eucalyptus as well for horses with breathing troubles. I found that when I made up the bed with either of these it lasted for ages and kept smelling sweet into the bargain.
Yes i use it- have been using it for the last few years or so- i love it, but it seems to be like marmite becasue people either love it or hate it!
The 2 brands of paper that i've been using make a lovely deep bed, the newsprint doesn't come off at all- and one of my horses is coloured and has loads of white on him! suits my horses as one of mine has slight allergies, in that if i use shavings or anything else he gets breathing probs/snotty nose and bad inflamed skin on his pasterns! I'm also very allergic too so it suits me. The stuff i've been using doesn't blow around the yard! my land lord likes everything to look nice so- I'd probably not be allowed to use it if it did!
I used it for a few months but didn't like it! Found it blew about everywhere and I constantly had to top it up so ended up being expensive. My two are quite messy also and it moves about a lot so I had two very messy beds! I know a few people though who use it and they love it! Does look nice and comfy when all fluffed up!
Something else to consider is disposal- our muckheap is removed by a farmer who then uses it on his fields, he refused to take it with paper bedding in it.
