I am in the process of buying a bit more land (2.7 acres) and have been wondering how to fence it. A neighbor has suggested the paradise system and I've just spent the evening reading about it. My questions are...
Is it OK if one of mine is shod (staying like that as does lots of road work)?
Is 2.7a too small and will it just get turned into a swamp in seconds?
What should i do with the middle?

Depends if you can be bothered with keep moving the fence? Obviously you will need to use the middle at some point. I think I'd spend my money on a decent perimeter fence, perhaps horse netting and rails, smart and secure, keeps dogs out too.
 
Hi, I successfully used a paradise track for the first time this year, I used the outside track all summer until end October and then have used the middle bit as winter turnout, this gives the track time to recover and come spring I can roll narrow and seed the middle if needed. I think if I were to use the track in winter it would become totally trashed and deep mud even with an unshod pony. Hope that helps. I only have 2 acres all year round.
 
I think I am going to have a go and just plan it for the summer. I hope the land will be mine by mid Jan so I can let them graze all of it over the winter giving me time to sort out the track fencing before the grass starts growing in spring.
Has anyone tried this and had problems?
 
A PP track is the best thing we have done with our land! Ponies are out 24/7 and only some sections of the track have paths worn into the surface! We have good perimeter fencing and the track is made with electric fencing. Connections from the outside electric outrigger to the internal fencing is put underground but I wouldn't bother if I were to redo it. I would run the wire in alkathene and run it alongside a good log about 1' high! I have divided up the middles and the ponies have access in rotation, these are strip grazed in spring/summer while still giving the ponies plenty of room to move and hoon!! If I had boggy land I would build a raised track across the boggy area....
