My horsehad a temp of 38.6 tonight. I'm freaking out because yesterday it was 37.8. there's a strangles out break in the yard less than half a mile from me and they have only just let us know at the start of the week and previously had some of their horses in the field right beside mine. My horse is fine in himself. Maybe coughing a tiny bit more than normal at start of exercise but he had mild rao and has been stabled more because of hot weather and horse flies. I'm so so stressed about the whole situation and obsessive about taking temperatures, even dreaming about itwould you all be Ok with 38.6?it's the absolute Max I would like it to be

From memory (mine had it 2 years ago this summer), the virus is carried in noticeable for 10/14 days or so. The temp is the start of the visible process. They, and it always varies, get swollen glands/jaw area, nasal discharge, and look dull. Keep monitoring your horse, speak to the vets to see how they handle it, some want to see the horse, some don't worry. It's not nice, but generally passes complication free.

Don't panic. Its seriously hot and they have been stabled. Has strangles been confirmed? If you are seriously worried give vet a call in the morning. Soon as I saw the title I knew it was you!

Yes, you are paranoid, try taking your own temperature and you will notice it goes up and down.....I'm sure it means nothing at all......well maybe means it's been a very hot day !

Thanks for replies. In regular contact with vet and have to ring him if temp goes go 39 or more. 38.6 is v close hence my worry but I can't ring him again as he Def thinks I'm crazy, and it's not 39. going back up soon to check and re take temps. V worrying times :(

Make sure you are taking his temperature at the same times each day, they will be potentially higher in hot weather and can give you reason to worry but try not to.
