Maesfen
Extremely Old Nag!
Parky very sneakily had her coloured filly foal this morning at 1.15 all by herself without telling anyone!!
I put the dogs out at midnight and she was dozing head over the door; had a chat and a pat and she was as cool as cucumber, not a sign of anything, no wax, no sweat, nothing. Went indoors, had a drink, made the foals' drink and took it to them. Parky was three doors down in the same building. No sound, nothing then I heard a knock against a door. Go down and foal is out, the bag is only on hindquarters and there was Parky looking very smug; she hadn't even broken sweat! They both stayed down for 20 minutes in spite of me spraying navel a delicate shade of sea green and then we had the heart stopping - I can get up, no I can't job which is the part I hate most; you want to go to help but know you shouldn't. Anyway, she did make it without TOO much trouble but was incredibly dense about the whereabouts of the milk bar. Meanwhile Parky shifted the afterbirth, all in one piece then decided she had done enough work, wanted a roll and to go back to bed. By the time it was all done and dusted, foal had drunk and passed some meconium, it was 5am, I was shattered and wanted my bed - the boys decided they wanted an early breakfast too to put the icing on the cake! After a couple of hours it was back up to start again. I must admit it will only be the bare minimum done today! Vet has been and checked both over and is well satisfied; Parky is eating to fill up the gap foaly left and foaly is having a buck around the box. Hopefully, when OH gets back we'll turn them out for an hour just to stretch the legs and I can tidy the bed again, looks like there's been a hurricane in there!
Some quick pic's of the very gangly girl!
Now it's just Bea to foal, her ETA is 1st May but who knows? Let's hope that one goes as smoothly as this one!
