my horse has an extreme parrot mouth and i am looking for a bit for her to be comfortable in. does anyone else have a horse with a parrot mouth? If so what bit do you use?
Have tried many different bits and at the moment she is in a JP hanging cheek french link, which may be a tad to strong as she is fighting abit with me. It may be as comfortable as she is ever gonna get, but if i can make things better for her i will try!
Any ideas?

Ted is parrot Mouth. He is ridden in a french link loos ring snaffle with no problems.. I have more problem with people clonking him one becuase they think he is biting.

Always a little worried about the brakes situation with a bitless

My friend's horse, Mouse, is extremely parrot mouthed, in fact both the vet and EDT we use say its the most severe case they have ever seen. Jo has been using a straight bar happy mouth which M seems quite happy in, she has also used a Dr Cook Bitless Bridle which is very effective and M is an ex-racer so brakes are quite important.

Our instructor has recently recommended a mullen mouth pelham with double reins too.

Do you have a local tack shop that offers a bit-bank, that may be useful or ask around the yard - I think between us on our very small yard we'd have around 50 bits!!

Good luck

there is only me and two other people on my yard! Have tried straight bars but she tends to lean on them, also when i had her in a mullen mouth pelham and she spent most of the time trying to get the shanks in her mouth lol!!
Would like to try the bitless but am really concerned about racing into the distance never to be seen again! we are currently waiting for the school to be built!
