Parrot Mouthed Horse!!

Tap, or Mr Tap as i belive he likes to be called, is a handsome 10yo ex racer Thoroughbred.
Unfortunatley poor Mr Tap has a parrot mouth and very little teeth. They've been checked regularly by the equine dentist, however i'm having trouble finding the right bit for him as he fights the contact all the time and also tries to get his tongue over the bit.
Any suggestions??
 
Sorry I havent got any suggestions for you, just am interested in any replies you get as my horse has a tongue habit (draws it back constantly) and he too has a parrot mouth albeit slight. Never thought this may be his problem?
 
What bit does Mr Tap use at present?

He uses a loose ring kor steel lozenge snaffle (phew! what a mouthful)
It's supposed to relieve tongue pressure but he rolls his tongue back and gets it over the bit......frequentlly!

If he's putting his tongue over the bit due to discomfort caused by a parrot mouth this would just add to op's problem, surely?
 
My mare has quite a bad parrot mouth and she is much happier being ridden in a hackamore, maybe you could try a bitless bridle?
 
my horse has a slight parrot mouth he is ridden in a loose ringe lozenge which he does fight a bit but he does get better with schooling. Have you tried an australian racing noseband as that holds the bit up in the mouth and prevents them putting their tongue over the bit or also a worcester noseband? we have one on our cob and it seems really good.
 
You could try a simple nathe snaffle. Mine has a parrot mouth and that's all he'd accept for quite a while, we've since progressed to a jointed plastic snaffle which he'll accept having spent so long getting him to trust the bendy bit.

A parrot mouth doesn't necessarily cause discomfort

He's already using a flash which doesn't make the slightest bit of difference unfortunatley!
I haven't tried the Austrailian Noseband yet however I have on order the Rambo Micklem Multibridle (yes! I've actually located one in England!!) which i'm going to try on him. You can use 3 it different ways one of which is bitless. Going to try that and see how he is.
