Part bred arab & coloureds - local showing help please

Hello.
Just bought what is believed to be a part bred arab pony. I have no proof, but have been told by the sellers that he is and he certainly has the fine head and head and tail carriage to go with this. So, just thinking about son taking him into some classes in local shows. Presumably I don't need proof that he is a PBA to show him in these classes? I am also assuming we need to plait as he is part bred rather than pure bred. Also, if anyone can help me on any specifics as far as tack is concerned that would be great - are pretty browbands allowed/encouraged? Other pony is Sec A so plain tack used there.
Secondly he is a bay roan. I've seen in a couple of schedules that roan comes under coloured - is this right? Only ever had black, bay and grey before so have no knowledge in this area. Any help would be appreciated. We will only be doing small local things, but I do like to get it right! Thanks!!! :):)
 
Hi again! I have done little local shows with my PBA, and have never been asked to prove his breeding. Once you reach the level where they state 'registered part bred' then I guess there's more of a problem!
Yes to plaiting.
I used to show my chap in normal browband until someone bought me a pretty coloured one, either would be acceptable I believe.

No idea about roans. :confused:
 
Lots and lots to choose from, and have been trying to remember some. Basildon Show at Beale Park, Pangbourne is a nice little show, in aid of the local RDA, but usually in July. Check out the Chiltern and Thames Valley Rider mag (I think that's what its called) in WH Smiths, they have local show near Wallingford. Also Hall Place as already mentioned. Schedules are usually at Threshers Barn, or at a feed place on Red Shute Hill near Hermitage, can't remember the name?? I'll be driving past tomorrow so will check if you don't know it.....
I miss Newbury, if you hadn't noticed.....:D
 
yes to plaiting, and yes to a coloured browband, with the big rosettes at the side too, the bigger the better!!

If you are doing local unaffiliated shows then it shouldn't be a problem with breeding papers etc.

Anything else you need to know pm me, I have a PBA that was UK champion as a 3 yr old xx
 
When you get higher you will struggle as most require proof of the arab blood. Locally should be fine however.

Turn out wise, you should turn out true to the pony's type. Most PBAs are show pony/hack types, though I've seen a few show hunter types before.
 
Thanks Seahorse and MissSBird - much appreciated. He is a very sweet pony, but in the nicest possible way, not sure he is anything really special. But we will get nice big fancy browband for him as he has a vary pretty head and at least we know we are turning him out properly.

Thanks!!! Will check them all out. I think it is really hard getting the hang of a new area which is why you miss the old one. I knew Surrey (Guildford to Leatherhead) inside out and back to front and when all the shows were coming up I was out hunting down the schedules!!!
 
Also, rather than start a new thread..... he has a couple of superficial scars on his legs (black parts). Is it acceptable to cover these with something, and if so what? They're not really bad, but would look a lot better if you couldn't see them.
 
If he is older than 3 yrs old then it's correct to use a pelham/double bridle with 2 reins (over his head) for in-hand showing. In-hand bridles are for youngstock only, I'm sure for local showing you could use a normal snaffle bridle with a flat noseband and 1 set of reins.


Black boot polish will be fine to cover the scars, but they aren't supposed to mark you down for acquired marks :)
