Hi guys wondering if anyone can help.

I have a reg PBW and we are off to a few shows over the next few months inhand and hoping someone can help me with the turn out for both him and myself. Normally I would wear a brown tweed jacket with tie and shirt and brown hat, he has white legs so will have dark trousers on but wondering if I would be able to wear jeans (black) and country boots or would it better trousers and trainers/ running shoes. Also is he better plaited or shown to type as he looks very welsh and should he wear a normal inhand bridle or a Welsh one.

Thanks in advance

Part bred welsh are shown to type, however you cannot show him as an M&M because he is not a purebred. What class would you put him in if he were doing normal showing classes?

My daughters part bred was shown plaited and trimmed as were others in her class which was just for part breeds, she was finer built. We did have a conversation with the stewards at one show when the schedule stated part breeds could be shown plaited but the judge disagreed so check the schedule small print of the show. I would be interested what you find out as my current part bred Welsh is more native. We cannot trim her feathers as she would kill us if we touch them!

Hi thank you. The only class he will be doing is part bred welsh. I looked into the part bred class where they are to be shown plaited however he looks very welsh so even though he suits plaited when I entered him he was totally out of place, way to chunky and different movement to the rest and the only chestnut with flaxen mane and tail. Lol. If I was to show him and there was no right or wrong way I would show his natural but I have read a lot of people plait in part bred welsh classes but if I plait him do I still wear tweed? Thanks guys. X

Louise, most partbreds welsh are shown plaited. As I said above they are turned out to type, so they are turned out as though you were going to do a hunter, show pony, hack, cob or riding horse class depending on what type he is.

My last PBW was a hunter pony type so shown in pbw classes as a hunter pony..

Unfortunately as you couldn’t show in an M&M class as he is not purebred so turning out as an M&M is far from ideal.
There is no colour bias in pbw classes so it will just have been down to what turned up on the day that you were the only chestnut with flaxen.

To be able to tell you how to turn him out correctly we would really need a photo.

I know I have spent ages trying to upload a pic but for some reason I am unable to do so. I know there is no colour bias to the part bred class just made him stand out even more as everything else was bay and fine and he was chestnut and chunky, but that was just a part bred class and even though he is able to enter it he doesn't seem to fit in. Should be different in the part bred welsh class though. Ok so will defo plait him and just get him a normal in hand bridle and not a Welsh one. Am I to wear tweed even though he is plaited? Sorry for all the questions it really easy with my coloured native lol. X

You still wear tweed whatever you show him as, he is probably more of a hunter type and will look chunky compared to the show pony types but some judges will prefer that to the finer ones, make sure he is well trimmed so no hair left in his heels or under his jaw to make him look heavier, have his tail thinned or pulled at the top and cut to the correct length and if you can get a photo on we can possibly offer more advice as to what will help you get him looking his best.

Never even thought of hunter classes apart from when he is ready I would like him to do working hunter. What type of hunter classes would he be able to go in? Thank you I have emailed some pics to you and would be grateful if you could add them. Xx
