Bit of an odd one I'm afraid!

If your horse is on part livery, and some one else mucks out his stable, is it acceptable to use the stable as a loo?

Every day - no, think of it the other way round - would you like to muck out someone elses wee?!?

Once as an emergancy because the loo is broken or something else very one off - TBH I'd still go and find a hedge!

When I worked in SA I had days when I only wee'd behind a bush so I might be more happy with a hedge than the average person!

Not particularly pleasant. Not particulary classy.
If a regular/ongoing thing then no not acceptable. If caught very short in a very rare incident then I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist (excuse the pun!) over it.

so the owner of the horse is peeing in the stable that someone else has to muck out?

if I am right then it is not really on, i have no problem with peeing in your own stable if you muck out yourself but it is not pleasant to leave it for someone else to deal with

Thanks guys, you've pretty much confirmed what I was thinking. A friend of mine is on PL and I popped in to see her recently, I needed a wee and the loo was quite far from her stable so I ran for it! Friend wet herself laughing (sorry!) and then said that she had no issues with using the stable as a loo, it just didn't sit right with me so wanted to see what everyone else thought :)

As a livery I have no issue with grooms using my stable for a wee as it's them who has to clean it out.

We don't have a toilet at my yard, but I privately rent it. So I have to use my stables if I need to go whilst I'm up there.

Though Any of us that uses the stables always muck it straight out after we've been. So no one else has to muck out anyone elses wee etc.

If there are toilets though, I wouldn't be going in the stable!

But, if they do use your stable for a wee ... how do you know? sometimes, I had my suspicions on the last yard we were at. As the area was not pony's wee wee areas. Anyways, another livery got it worse. Crazy woman used this livery's stable and left the toilet paper! :/

I wee in mine if i need to but its not overly often and im the one mucking it out daily so i dont see a problem.

Would never ever go for a number 2 though, even if i mucked it out straight away! yuck!

I honestly didn't know people wee'd in stables, whether they were their own or anyone elses. I am so glad I'm not on a yard!!

i thought the same... i honestly thought they were joking!

i'm a groom and i muck out 15 stables and i hope that no one pees in them, i would be really upset/offended if i heard that they were

Eww no - not classy regardless of who mucks out the stable

Weeing anywhere but a loo is up there on my list of pet hates along with eating in the street - but thats a different debate!

I wouldn't use my stable if there was a loo available but blimey what's a bit of human wee amongst a horses? In the old days hardly any yards had loos. Wouldn't bother me at all.

No loos on my yard so I keep a wee bucket in my stable.
It's MY yellow wee bucket, marked WEE BOUQUET ( :p ). I can wee in it, I can wash it out.
If anyone else touches it, it is their fault!!

Sorry to offend the moral majority but I wee in my stable and it was perfectly acceptable to wee in the stables in the livery yard I was on previously - beds are/were shavings and could cope with gallons of horse wee so half a cup of human pee isn't going a make the slightest difference.....

I've been on a couple of yards with no loo so this was the only option. Became commonplace at one to shout "I'm going for a wee" so that no-one put their head over the door while you were in there. Agree that a small amount of human pee isn't going to have a material effect on health or hygience compared to a horse's output!

The loo at our yard is miles away and often the door can't be shut and there are people back and forth past it therefore no one has a problem with using the stable for a wee!
Goodness me..how much wee do you do to even notice on a bit of bedding? I'm sure far worse ends up on it, its not like you pick it up with your mouth!!
I've always been on yards without loos, then what would people do? Hold it all day?

To add these are my horses that I muck out and I muck out all the liveries too so its only me picking it up.
No to number twos though!!

When I had horses as a teenager, there were no loos so weeing in the stable was the norm, especially as we mucked out ourselves. When I started riding again after a break, I was at 3 consecutive yards that had loos, and the novelty never wore off even after a few years :biggrin3:

However my new yard, despite being practically perfect, has no loo, and although it's close to home, I'm not walking back and forth just to have a wee. It's all DIY there though.

On part livery, I did once wee in the stable as I was so desperate when I got back from hacking I wouldn't have made it to the loo in time. But I did muck it out afterwards as I felt guilty.

Our barn doesn't have a loo - we can go up to the YO's house and use the loo, but it involves going in past all her non-horsy family and the whole boots off malarkey, so I often wee in my stable. However my boy lives out, and only uses the stable when in because he doesnt tie up very well, and it is rubber mat and shavings - I go on the shavings and then sweep up the shavings so it's not there very long! Much better than going round the back of the barn when all four sides are visible either from track or house... Number 2s don't come into the equation, that's an up-to-the-house job.

I would feel a bit guilty about weeing when someone else mucked it out, although on my own part if mucking out horse wee it doesn't bother me a tiny amount of human wee in there too.
