How much would you pay for part livery & full livery andwhat does each entail? Also would you expect the horse to be in at night in the summer? Ive always had my horse on diy but Im thinking of putting him on either part or full livery. Theres a yard near us that charges £110 a week for full livery. Is that reasonable?

Some people take full livery to mean different things. Mine includes tack cleaning, grooming and exercise but other places is hasn't. What does it include ?

:) Depends where you are but yes that sounds reasonable if it includes feed, hay and bedding. My yard is £95 full livery but it is considered very reasonable, it is £75 part (5 and 2). Ours are in at night in the summer, some do some don't.

As the others said - it depends what it includes and where you are!

I pay £63/week for part livery, which includes muck out, turn out / in, holding for vet etc, feed, hay and straw - basic daily care, in other words. It doesn't include tack cleaning, grooming or riding!

Also really depends on where you are in the country!

So to check. Full to me means everything done, including tack cleaning , grooming and exercise. You ride when convenient. Part to means all done, but owner tack cleans, grooms and works the horse. Overlap to check would be, attending farrier, vet, saddler and physio, some yards charge handling fees. Some yards say part means they do 5 days a week, you do the weekend . Check the restriction on bedding and feed, also hay. My yard has a policy of ad lb hay. Having been on a yard where EACH extra section was charged at £1 I am anal about this...and that was over 12 years ago!! Particularly as both of mine had no hay left by 6.00..

Yes, that is my definition too. Could alse include plaiting for hunting/shows.

My definition of part livery is yard looks after the horse every day of the week and includes the cost of bedding, hay and feed - sometimes with a limit as to how much they will provide.

Looking after includes mucking out, turn out, catch in, change of rugs - although it is becoming more common for horse to stay in turnout rugs, giving hay, feeds and water, holding for vet/farrier etc and possibly muck clearing the Paddocks.

Supplements are at owners cost for both.

on both types of livery I would expect the yard to have an arena with a decent surface. At some yards they keep the horses out during the day and in at night whilst some switch them over in the summer. I was once on the most expensive grass livery in the world - horse was supposed to be on full livery (at £150 a week) but on turning up unexpectedly and finding another horse in 'my' stable in the summer the yard had to own up that he had been living out full time. He was quite happy - I wasn't!!

Some places offer 5 day part livery with the owner looking after the horse on the other two days - usually at the weekend.
