Part livery or assisted DIY confusion!

This seems to be a bit if a grey area as far as "what the yard does for you". I had an earlier thread asking about grass/DIY livery in Thursley area of Surrey. My boy is currently out 24/7 but is proving reluctant to leave his mates when I want to ride (there is never enough time to spend the time I would like with him) and vet thought his feet looked a bit sore (he is barefoot) which was not helping. So I consulted my farrier and we have put front shoes on last weekend. Trouble is, it would be nice to have a helping hand when I am feeling nervous etc and there is never anyone around! I have been writing down the things I would LIKE to have, and a stable, help on hand, good year round turnout, easy off road hacking rank very highly. Whether I could afford this is another story!

Anyone give me an idea of prices and what you get for that?

As far as I understand it:

Part livery is where you get the services of the yard all the time (whether you like it or not :>)

Assisted Diy is where you have DIY and you can pick and choose the Part Livery services as and when you need them (and normally 'Pay as you go'. Sometimes though assisted DIY is just normal DIY with turnout and bring.

Assisted DIY should be cheaper than part, but the cost will vary depending on which services you take.

I pay £85 a month for stable and grazing - pure DIY. Yard owner then offers all services (feed/turn out/muck out/bring in) at an extra cost as and when you need it (weekdays only). We have good grazing in small groups (2-4 horses per field), which is rotated 2-4 times every year. There is a 20x40 sand school with a set of show jumps, and a few X-C jumps between the fields. There's some off road hacking around the fields, but this is limited. It's only a short ride to off road hacking though

We are on a DIY yard but we have a resident groom who does the 'assisted DIY'. We pay our stable & grazing rent to the YO. Basically everyone looks after their own horse however if you are unable to muck out, turnout, be there for farrier visit etc the groom will do that for you & you pay her direct. We find it very useful as no matter what happens the horses will always be looked after & her prices are very reasonable.

Feeding every morning, she does all horses so they are all content = £1 per horse per week. Turnout £1, Bring in £1, Muck out £5. Clip is £25. She'll lunge, exercise etc but not sure of prices for that. She is there every day but has Sundays off when one of the livery's daughters earns some pocket money.

Our groom's charges I feel are cheap, other yards charge much more.

I'm on DIY livery- basicially I do everything myself.

However YO will turn out/bring in for 50p, change rugs for 50p as requested.

She will also do holiday livery cover.

So...I see to my own horses but know if I am stuck I can ask YO to do certain stuff for me, and she just sticks it on my bill.

Pert livery here basically means I as the horses 5 days a week, bring in turnout muck out etc. Feed, bedding and hay/haylage are included in the cost. Owner mucks out brings in at weekends. That is £75 a week.

DIY is £30 a week, I turnout and feed inc in DIY price. if the livery wants horse brought in/ mucked out/ fed hayed etc then that can be done at an extra cost.

I'm on part livery 7 days a week, for £45 per week, and I get:
Horse fed and rug changed in the morning
Turned out
Buckets emptied and cleaned
Full muck out
Horse brought in about 1 hour before I get down.

I then have to fill haynets, make up feeds and feed and rug change.

DIY is £20 a week at my yard in South Wales. Yhat includes stable, grazing, trailer parking and use of outdoor school. I'm at one of the middle of the road yards in the area - there are others with indoor schools, horsewalkers, cross country courses etc and others with no facilities at all. Yard owner will do them when we're on holiday, £5 a day if they're in and for free if they're out and just need keeping an eye on and feeding as she's doing that for her own and will do them both together. It's a small friendly yard and YO is just like one of the other liveries really! We all ride and go places with together and help each other out when we're stuck for things. Maybe just a friendly DIY yard with some other likeminded liveries to help you out would be what you need?
