Sorry to hijack this group again. I’ve been looking into them going onto part livery, but seem to have come across an odd price.
YO charges £100 per horse per week 52/52, yet they are out 24/7 from mid April to mid November. So essentially clients are paying for services, hay, straw etc for 7 months without having anything back. Is this normal? 🤔

What is included in the 100 per week?

I charge 64 per week for grass livery and daily checks, feed and giving hay, all year round. Doesn't include the hay and feed, and we don't have mucking out and bedding to worry about, so my on livery pays for her hay in the months it is needed. I'd also say that 100 per week is cheap if it includes mucking out, bedding and hay.

As said £100 is very cheap for 5 day livery over winter so rather than charging a summer and winter rate, it looks like they are averaging it out.

I would also say there are still jobs over summer. I would expect daily checks, rug changing, giving feeds, fly spray and masks, muzzles etc as needed.

Plus to have horses out 24/7 you need more land than if they are stabled part of the time.

Sorry to jump on this thread - but I have just moved my horse to full Livery for various reasons and need to recoup some of the cost by renting out my facilities at home. But I have no idea what to charge?? DIY Yard - 2 large Stables with rubber matting (only 4 yo), Feed room, hay store, tack storage in the house, hot wash, 8 acres of good grazing with 2 field shelters (one can be used as a stable). Flat fields at the top so good for schooling April-Oct - but no school as such. Hacking on byway, quite roads, some fields and bridle paths in Surrey/hampshire borders. Ideally 2/3 horses max. Any advice on what to charge???

Horses can live out 24/7 or be stabled

My yard charges different winter & summer rates. In summer you either have them out at grass 24/7, they check on them as they poo pick or you can have them in on diy basis. Works out to be around £95 per week pro rata. £120 winter part livery and £57 summer grass livery

It would be reasonable at £100/week that's cheap. So your yard will essentially be costing for the entire year and pro-rata it.

Giving feeds is extra, haven’t asked about rugs yet, especially summer ones, thanks! Or fly spray. And sun block too! 🤦‍♀️

I pay £100 per week for the care seven days a week (inc. grooming / bathing) - then bedding, forage and hard feed is billed extra at cost. So I'd say £100 a week inclusive, is pretty good.

Fairly standard for the same price summer and winter even if out 24/7 in summer. It’s the same for full livery where we are in our area (if they are able to live out over summer)

That is normal if owners want them out it is their choice, yard still has bills to pay and rates top pay and lighting and water. Also maintenance on the land like fertilizer.

My Part 7 days starts at £ 130, they can go out overnight in the summer but rates stay the same.

Sounds about right my part livery stabled overnight all year round is almost £200 a week. It will also depend on where in the country you are.

Sounds like they have calculated the costs for a full year and split it by 52 so that people pay the same amount all year round.

There will also be a lot of poo picking when they are living out so that will be summer services as well possibly checking fly masks and putting on fly spray and those sort of jobs.

As a YO I work out my price for livery, per stable, over a year. So the same price each month all year round. In the summer they can have 24hr TO but in the winter it maybe only half a day. Ad lib hay is included in my price. So in the winter I may be under priced due to hay/bedding/electric/water costs but in the summer I aim to make up the shortage as less usage. I also have to include the price of fertiliser/grass seed, fencing, machinery, my time etc. I had a livery ask me once why I didn't reduce livery in the summer as they didn't need the stable????? I can't rent out a stable ad hoc with no grazing!!!

That would make much more sense, but she charges £15 pd in the summer of they are in during the day, Would charge £5 pd for feeding as they’d have to be taken out of their field (need feeds due to Prascend and Cushings supplement) extra for anything other than fly spray, so rugs and sun block would be extra, the list goes on. 😞

Appreciate that, but some reduction would be better. 😊

We are expected to do some poo picking in the summer, anything other than doing fly spray is extra, feeding is extra, literally everything.

I'm on full livery, and they come in overnight in winter but stay out in summer. It's the same monthly fee all year which I appreciate as it makes budgeting easier for everyone. She gets more profit in summer than in winter, but overall it works out. Also, it means if they need to be in for a bit during summer, say box rest etc, it's not an issue, and it's not a price increase either.

I thought you said £100 a week. That works out at £433.33 a month.
Sorry, should have said, I have two. My pony was quoted at £87.50 with a 10x10 stable.
Should also add that the stables were matted, minimal bedding, extra £10 pw for a full bed.

Mine wanted to charge me £15 a day each for coming in during the day.

I guess it’s more once you add on the £5/day summer feeding charge and rug checking charges.
Would be more as she’d have to take them out of the field to have their feeds. Basically to get a proper livery service where they are looked after and their needs attended to is going to cost an arm and a leg. I’ll stick to my DIY, just need to find a decent helper for the mornings.
