For part livery I would expect to have all my bedding, feed, hay provided by the yard, them to muck out, turn out, bring in, change rugs etc 7 days a week. Would not expect them to groom, ride or clean tack as I would then class that as full livery.
As for what you pay for that service guess it depends which part of the country you are in and facilities available.
I do part livery which is 5 days a week, and DIY at weekends. We provide all the feed, hay and bedding.Muck out, turnout/ in change rugs on our 5 days and at weekends we will turnout only. the client has to muck out and bring in.
I have George on part livery and for this I get:
hay and straw ordered, delivered and stacked but I pay extra
horses fed twice a day
horses turned out and bought in
rugs changed/put on if necessary
hay put in when they come in, but nothing after 3pm
all maintenance and use of facilities.
No mucking out or skipping out, no grooming or riding.
£80/wk in SW area last winter season (Nov - April/Mayish months).
For that I had all feed, haylage, bedding provided. Horse mucked out a.m. and skipped out p.m. Turned out/brought in rugs changed - 7 days a week.
I did myself - all exercising, grooming and preparation for hunting/eventing (bath, plaiting etc etc). Also cleaned tack.
Having said that I used to ride and turn out and skip out bed when I was there in morning - just seemed normal to me rather than dump horse!! I would also on horses days off go and turn out. Would "do" more over weekends and would take horse out twice a week so he was never a 7 day a week horse for the yard.
When I had shadow on part i paid £70 per week and all my haylage was included, he was provided with 1 bale of shavigs a week, he was mucked out, and then skipped out at 4pm his nets were filled, he was turned out/brought in- everything except no grooming/no feed/no excersising
I also had use of 2 large arenas and lorry parking.
What did annoy me was they were hit and miss with washing his legs/picking out feet- it seemed to depend which member of staff it was that brought him in.
My yard does part livery and it includes stable, grazing, turn out and bring in, mucking out, making up and giving feeds, straw and hay, making up haynets, hosing off and picking out feet if need be, changing rugs. Also use of all facilities.
IMO that's actually full livery...my last 2 yards did the above and called it full, but current yard calls it part and full includes exercise and grooming. My last place called it exercise livery.
I honestly have no idea what we pay for part livery as I'm DIY but I think it's about £80 for mon to fri.
like already has been said you get what you py for in terms of quality of service.
On my yard, part livery includes a 7 day a week service. All feeding, which on my yard includes Top spec feed balancer and all feed is either Allen and Page or D and H, Ad lib haylage or hay bedding either straw[also ad lib] or shavings[4 a month any extra are invoiced at cost].
The horses are turned out, brought in, feed picked out and legs washed down, rugs changed.
We organise all farrier care , ensure vet care and other support staff like the dentist and the back lady.
Lorry trailer parking and all use of facillities.
For this i charge £100 per week.
I also make sure i always have a minimum of two fully qualified and experienced staff on at all times. During the winter there are 4 staff am. this is also an important issue and certainly one to be considered as staff wages are my biggest out going but vital in the smooth running of a happy relaxed yard.
My owners are happy in the knowledge that all their horses needs are taken care of and all they have to do is groom, ride and clean their tack.
£200 for diy, which includes, straw, turning out and brining in and feeding + use of indoor school and 2 outdoor schooling areas + some offroad hacking. We have to muck out etc.
mucking out
turn in/out
change rugs
feed
worm
supervising for vet/farrier/dentist
I would expect to pay about £80-£110 per week for that, and it would include all bedding, hay/haylage and hard feed. In one yard, it also including wormers and pulling manes and tails.
Full livery would be all of the above plus:
exercise at least 5 days a week (schooling/hacking/lunging)
grooming every day
pulling manes and tails
tack cleaning after every ride
competition turn out including washing and plaiting
clipping (sometimes £15-20 extra depending on yard)
tacking up ready for client to ride, untack wash off after - this happens in the really professional ones!!
For full livery, I would expect to pay from £130-£200 per week depending on the area.
