Im asking the experts here :) 505s traveling with /without patitions, first
when travelling without do you just need front breech bar across the front and one across the back i have one for the front but not the back

when travelling with a partition which is best side to travel horse in ?
can you use chain behind or best to use breech bars (ill have to buy these )

partitions ,weres best to buy these second hand , and how much to pay ?Someone said they made one for theres , have you or known someone who has ? Its an old trailer , i need a partition for another horse for company to shows etc, but want it cheap , any suggestions/pictures of yours would be gratefully recieved thanks:)

I travel a horse with just the front breech bar, if I'm unloading on my own I untie the horse and then clip on a lungeline which I then put out the jockey door so I can hold onto it when I am putting the ramp down if that makes sense?

If you are travelling a horse alone with a partition in then they should legally travel on the right (same side as the driver)

I have a spare partition for the old 505 if you're anywhere near me (between Chester and Shrewsbury on the A41 so easy to get to). A neighbour had her almost new trailer stolen a few years ago (before they brought out the split partition) but they didn't take the partition so she gave it to us! It's only fault is it doesn't have a rubber bottom skirt to it but at the same time, I don't use our partition (which has a skirt) so you could take your pick if you wanted.

A new full width breeching bar will cost £40 plus VAT direct from IWT but I don't think they do the old partitions any longer; a half partition is £95!

Please use both rear and front breach bars!

You need the front one to stop the horse stumbling or falling forwards and becoming stuck in the nose section.

But you also need a back bar as this protects the ramp should the horse back up or be thrown backwards against it. Many horses like to "sit" on the rear bar for balence. If you don't have a rear bar then they lean on the ramp which can be dangerous. There have been instances where horses have fallen out of trailers on the move when the rear ramp gave way.

Plus in an accident the two breach bars retain the structural integrity of the trailer. They, and the partitions if used, form a rigid box keeping the horse safe inside if the trailer goes over.

I know it isn't nice to think about trailer accidents. But we owe it to the horses to make sure they are as safe as possible and that we know what to do if there is an accident.

Thanks i have the front one will purchase one full length for back never thought about leaning back on ramp (a chain/tie ) can snap or stretch

Id love to buy one but your the other end of country :(

If you're anywhere near Kent, I also had my previous 505 stolen without the partition, so have a spare partition I would be willing to sell. Let me know if you're interested.
