Jealous much! I really want to do mine but it's so expensive

What exactly is involved? And how easy would it be to pass with only a days training (the expensive bit!). I got a car and trailer i could get myself insured on to practise but not sure if it's worth doing the test first.

Well done! Hope you have fun getting out and about.

I did mine in January and it was £350 for 4 hours training and then the test straight after. I think most people would pass with a day's training and really it's just the same as your car test with a few extras. There's an off-road reverse manoeuvre, controlled stop, hitch and unhitch, and you drive on the road for about an hour. It really depends how confident you are on the road and it's worth bearing in mind that most people fail for lack of observation etc rather than something related to the trailer.

Thanks everyone, I really made up - FREEEEEEDOM!!!

As for how long would it take to pass, I suppose it depends. I did about 10 hours practice (I had towed a little bit before too), but failed my first test (cocked up the reverse and got a major on the driving part too. In all honesty, I would say the driving bit is the hardest - an hour of driving around to a very high standard. I got minors for using an indicator when I didn't need to, driving a bit too slow on a country lane (50mph on bendy lanes with a trailer scares me!) and not checking my blind spot after 1 stop at the side of the road.

Its a test centre you do it at, the place where truckers go (in my case it was a VOSA test centre). You do the manouvres (reverse bay park, couple/uncouple and controlled stop) at the centre then drive for about an hour.
